  1. Hi, Pooja.

I met her and she took a page full of measurements. I have no idea what she's planning.

I am supposed to meet her on Friday to see if everything fits. She'll add the finishing details once she ensures that everything fits. I would not get to see the finished product until the wedding weekend. Right now, I don't even know what colour I'd be wearing. Given my luck, I'm going to guess pink. HOT PINK.

  2. Ooooo hot pink sounds like the way to go.....bold n beautiful :))

And what about your lovely hair Ms. Maid of Honour. How's that gonna be oiled n styled???

    2. Any updates Neetu? Did you meet her on Friday?

    3. Hi Pooja. I met her on Friday. She had me try out a few things. No idea what goes with what. And which of them I'll be actually wearing.

Of them, my favourite was a very long kurta. It was green and grey with shiny gold flower. It had slits in the front and both sides, and a zipper in the back.

She also had me try out pyjamas with very wide legs. It was made from Kerala mundu: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1030/6903/products/kasava_mundu_1_large.jpg?v=1467964581

She also asked me to think about accessories. She showed me some of the things she bought and told me about ideas she had. Something like this: http://picture-cdn.wheretoget.it/jfu8iz-l.jpg

As far as hair, I'm thinking I'll end up doing a braided bun. Maybe add a few flowers ;)

      What do you think?

  3. Hii! Mother of 2 kids 1 daughter 1 son! i found this blog recently just felt like posting.. my daughter is in 7th grade now but already wanting to get modernize and more fashion style. but i can't blame her for this.. in her school also many girls are like this.. and hair oiling era is slowly going down unfortunately!

    1. Hi. Welcome to the blog. I can't blame her either. I hated getting my hair oiled as a kid. My mother never forced me to do anything I didn't want to do. So almost my entire childhood, I went without ever oiling my hair.

But I have started oiling my hair in the past few months and it's quite addictive if done right.

I do agree with you. Modern is in. And if you oil your hair, you're traditional. People consider traditional boring. So, the era of hair oiling might be ending.

But, whether it is considered cool or in fashion or not, I'll continue oiling my hair. At least as long as I'm enjoying it. I do it for me.

    1. Wow! That's always a great sight to see long healthy hair. Personally though I prefer waist length hair. Plenty of styling options with that length and I don't like the ends looking thin and unshapely. So I just keep my hair around that length. Oiling though is something I just can't do without. I feel once hair is oiled well it can be styled in any way and is so manageable. Plus I just love that sleek and shiny look it brings to my hair. And of course the cooling and fragrance thats with me all the time when my hair is propely oiled. That's why even after every wash I barely keep my hair dry for a couple of hours and then it's time for a proper oiling again. I also like to top up a little oil whenever I need to go out and comb out my hair before styling it. Just helps get that perfect shiny and sleek look :)

  5. Hi!! again posting after 2 week! sorry for that just been busy. taking this 2 week 1st week was nothing special.. just typical days.. and that girl who normally come she also had to go somewhere out.. but this week she came today..! they had school holiday as exams are coming soon they got self study holiday like today and weekend. they both were gonna study at our place and both had dry hair so i called that girls mother as if should oil her hair or not.. she said i should soo before they were starting studying i gave them very heavy oiling to both.! even my sister too.. as its nice before study.. for my sister i used normal section wise oiling in start and than massage for bit.. as her hair are bit longer.. and for her friend with bit shorter hair and blunt i again used that combing while oiling method as i think thats best and oil reach each part of her hair.. both had sooo oiled hair today.. afterwards i took 2 tight plaits for my sister and for her friend it was just straight open hair with few pins.. :)

again later night i will use little oil on sister before sleeping and keep her hair very oiled throughout the week as its no school.. so as planning to call her friends mother and give her same idea too topup every certain time..

  6. Hi. Shruti here.

I wanted to share an incident that happened last weekend.

My next door neighbor has been growing his hair out now that he's in college and its past his shoulders now.

For the past few weeks, I've noticed that he's got quite a lot of dandruff and he keeps scratching his head. So I asked him what he's doing to maintain his hair. As expected, he said he's not doing anything. Just letting it grow.

So, as a good neighbor I asked him to come over if he'd like to get it oiled. I told him it'll help with the dandruff and make his hair stronger and healthier.

While I was oiling his hair, his mother had come over to tell him to go to the super market to pick up some groceries. I told aunty that I'm oiling his hair right now and that I'll be done in five minutes.

After oiling his hair (quite heavily but not so much that it'll drop), I told him that I'll tie it into a bun instead of his usual ponytail so that his tshirt doesn't get stained.

Without him realizing, I quickly did a rough braid, tied it in a bun, and put a pink hair stick. I added a few pink snap clips, telling him that its black and no one will notice, but it is necessary for the bun to stay.

He thanked me for the oiling and he left to go shopping. I offered to oil his hair next weekend as well if he wanted me to. He said sure thanks.

I wonder how his trip to the supermarket went. All I can tell is about an hour after he left my house, I could hear loud laughter (sounded like his mother) coming from his home.

    2. Hi Shruti, I hope he takes you up on that offer. I certainly would.

      Priya, how's everything?

    3. So did he come back to you Shruti? Secretly I am sure he loved the oiling and the nice shiny bun you made for him. Long hair always looks so much better when it's oiled and styled. The pink hair stick and clips could take some time for a guy to get used to....but if he's as adventurous and open to trying out new things like our Neetu then I am sure you can have more fun trying out girly stuff with him

      Delete
    4. Hello Pooja. He did come back. When he rang my door bell, I thought he'd shout at me at least a little bit. He just had an annoyed look on his face and said I'm returning this and handed me the hair stick and clips.I took them and said you shoulve kept them it suits you. He said it's not funny and started to walk back. I asked where he is going and told him I thought he came to get his hair oiled. He said okay but don't put those things in my hair. I said ok I won't put "those things" in your hair. He sat down on the floor and I sat behind him on a chair and oiled his hair. He was clearly scared that I'd prank him again. He kept turning and looking back to see if I'm doing something. I oiled his hair tied it as a high ponytail. He quickly went to the mirror to check if I've done anything to embarrass him. Once he was satisfied that I didn't, he thanked me and left.

Perhaps, I'll try out girly stuff with him after gaining his trust. Do you know how I should do that? Any suggestions?

    5. Hi Shruti,
I can relate to your situation. Last weekend I was getting my hair heavily oiled by my maid, when my neighbour friend dropped by to chat. While chatting she started to talk about her college going son who has long shoulder length hair. She wants him to get his hair oiled as she thinks he might have dandruff/lice as always scratching. I asked her not to worry and sent him to me as I will talk to him. Even my maid suggested that heavy oiling on weekends would help and he should join our weekend oiling routine. My friend was happy with suggestion and said she will ask him to meet me.
I think you should talk to the mother and encourage her to be positive and complement her son hair and style not laugh as that would discourage him. If you have a maid ask her to complement his oiled hair as well, it would help gain his trust. Hope it helps Shruti.
Today my maid suggested that it would be nice to oil his hair and try new styles. I said why not.

    6. Shruti, Rupa is on the right track. First gain his trust by getting him to regularly oil his hair from you. Then coax him to try new styles with oiled hair. Always show him what style you have done so he can also appreciate and comment which style he likes. Once that has happened then I am sure he will let you try out accessories too and really enjoy all the girly stuff versus freaking out :)) If he wants to sport long hair then obviously he needs to get bold and experiment as well. And how lucky to have such nice girlfriend neighbours to spoil him!

      Delete
    7. Thanks Rupa and Pooja. His mother and I had a chat the day after. And she was really happy to see that he's getting his hair oiled. She had apparently tried and failed at getting him to take care of his hair. She confessed that he's probably listening to me because he's apparently a lil crush on me and will anything I tell him to.

Pooja, your idea of trying out different styles on him is quite interesting. It'll be fun to do and I'll gaining his trust. What styles should I try on him and in what order? If I go too bold too fast, he'll probably freak out. Or maybe since he's madly in love with me, he'll go along with anything I do to his hair. Lol!

      Delete
    8. Since his hair is yet shoulder length, you can't do too many styles. But oil his hair well and make a nice tight short n cute braid, comb back and twist his hair and use a claw clip to hold it into a semi bun, then a sleek pony style, you can even comb back the top part of his hair and use a small claw clip to hold it in place and leave the rest of his hair open. Once his hair is longer then you can get to French and fishtail braids. Also get him used to metal clips to hold his hair in place. Black or navy blue ones. Not yet pink, red, yellow etc. After a while he'll let you. I am sure he'll love the oiled hair look and once he looks at himself neatly groomed and hair in place with clips etc, he'll love you even more

    9. Hi Shruti,
Pooja gave some great suggestions about hair styles. If regular oiling is done then hair would grow longer faster and braids could be done. What do you think Pooja ?. So Shruti how long is your hair and do you regular oil your hair and what oil do you use.
Would like to use hear more about your own oiling routine.

    10. Hi Shruti,

      I'd go with Pooja's suggestions.

Initially, stick to simple androgynous hairstyles like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/53641086@N07/17173996950

Slowly move on to this: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1545/25559568493_8c2bdccc6a_b.jpg

      and then this: http://images45.fotki.com/v1140/photos/0/1708930/9139968/foldedbraidflexi8-vi.jpg

Who knows maybe one day he'll let you try this on him: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/B3FPJuP0-W4/hqdefault.jpg

Don't forget to complement him on his hair.

I'm too drained to post any details. Will do it in a few hours. Or maybe tomorrow.

  8. I was told to get to the airport empty-handed since all my clothes were being stitched by Reshma. When i got to the airport, Reshma had already arrived. She had several bags with her (one for each bridesmaid, a big red one for my friend and a pink one for me).

The flight was rather boring with me reading a book and the girls chattering away about the wedding.

every day we spent at the resort was eventful and I'll eventually post about everything but today, I'll narrate what happened during the mehendi ceremony.

Inside my pink bag, Reshma had put the clothes in several paperbags. the paperbags were clearly marked so that I dont wear what I need to wear for the wedding at some other time. So, for the mehendi ceremony, I opened the bag that said "mehendi". Inside was an indigo kurta and a wide-legged pyjama (which I later found out is called palazzo). It also had matching earrings and sandals.

I quickly got dressed and put my hair up in a bun and joined the girls. The evening was a blur. There were a lot of dancing and drinking and more dancing. My friend was, as the name of the ceremony suggests, having her hands and legs decorated with mehendi. They had arranged for several artists to do the mehendi and had planned for everyone to get their hands mehendi-ed.

Despite a lot of protests, I was forced to sit down along with them as well. And by the end of the evening, both my hands had beautiful mehendi design upto my mid forearm. Something like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/93/a6/77/93a67704a3622424ed9a1aaf5ec46434.jpg

    1. Lol! Pooja, I am most definitely now "one among the girls". My hair was lightly oiled for the mehendi ceremony.

Before going to the resort, we had a 2 day halt at an ayurveda spa. Don't ask what oils they used. They said a few names but I can't remember them.

It was two days of our hair and body being heavily oiled with one oil after another. Words cannot express how awesome it was.

Finally schools are getting over! and only exams left! my work is done in schools soo now i will be all all free in 2-3 days! can someone suggest me good schedule for my hair? would be really nice..

just so you know i don't like crazy heavy hair oiling i am very fine with heavy but not super dripping:)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ruchi good to hear from you. Perfect time for you. I don't like crazy type of oiling as well. But I just love having my hair well oiled and combed all the time. I usually get oil put by my maid everyday in the morning after my bath. That's my good 20 min of relaxation time where I just feel totally rejuvenated. Then I get my hair combed and styled for the day. I usually wear the same style through the day and because my hair is always oiled well the style stays that way. Evening I just loosen up my hair and oil lightly and run my fingers and play for a while with my oily tresses just chilling out. Then I put my hair into a casual bun or pony and hang out watching tv or go for a walk with my friends. If I have to go out in the evening for a party or function then I style my hair properly and coat with a sweet smelling oil so that I get a nice shiny bun or braid. On weekends when I am at home then I get my maid to give me a double massage for the day when possible.

  12. Hi Pooja. Sorry for the delay in posting this.

A week before the wedding, in the height of the last minute shopping, I, along with the gang of girls, went to a parlour nearby. They wanted to get waxed and mani/pedi, etc.

I just sat in the waiting room drinking the free lemonade until one of the salon girls came and said "Sir! madam is asking you to come." So, I accompanied her to see what "madam" wanted. The moment she saw me, she just said "sit down here. You're getting cleaned up as well".

So I sat there. Got "cleaned up". This meant I got my legs and arms waxed, eyebrows shaped, mani and pedi, a facial, and hairspa. While I was sitting with god knows what on my face, I heard giggling and someone touched my ear with something. Next thing I know.. POP! POP! POP! on my left ear and POP! POP! POP! on my right ear. Since my manicure had just gotten over, I was forbidden from moving my hands. So I couldn't check what they did.

After what felt like a day and a half, the face was cleaned and I was allowed to look in the mirror. I could now see that I am the owner of six additional holes in my ear with tiny sparkly hearts in each of them. The salon girl asked me to sit back in the chair and my heart dropped to my stomach. She brought the piercing gun and moved it towards my face. Reshma happily said "we all have nose rings. We can't let you be the odd one out. We can't have you miss out on the fun". So my nose was pierced with a big shiny stud.

Soon after, I had my hair washed and blow-dried. The salon girls asked Reshma and the girls what style to give me.They decided I'd look good with a french twist. Like this: http://www.prettydesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/French-Twist-Updo-for-Wedding-Hairstyles.jpg

  13. Hi. Anandita here.

I've been letting my son grow his hair forever. We get it trimmed and maintained. It's currently a little past his shoulders. It's a little long for his age but he likes it that way. He keeps it in a ponytail almost all the time. It's lightly oiled every day and I give him a oil massage every weekend.

The problem is we're switching cities because my husband is getting a new job. My son's has to join a new school and they're not as open-minded and free as the previous school. They are very strict about the uniform. I haven't told him yet. But it looks like I've to cut his hair before he joins in a few months.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Forcing him to cut his hair would be a real shame. Perhaps you should talk to the new school and let them know that you would ensure that his hair is always well oiled and groomed so that it always presents a neat appearance. If they don't approve of pony tails tell them you would use metal clips to hold his long hair in place and twist and roll into a nice oiled bun. I am sure they will consider as oiled hair always presents a professional appearance, suitable for any environment. If they allow this, who knows they may allow him to keep his hair in an oiled braid too once it grows longer. All the best!

      Delete
    2. Hey Pooja. I don't have the heart to cut it. Don't want to force it on him either.

The new school is a bit traditional but they're one of the best in the city. The uniform includes very specific hairstyles. Apparently, they don't want children obsessing over their appearance. So boys need to have their hair in one of three hairstyles. Slight variations are allowed to accommodate curly and wavy hair. Similarly girls have a set of hairstyles approved. Younger girls have a different set.

Given his current hair length, there is no way he can have his hair in any of the styles approved for boys. If I am to convince the school, I'd have to convince them to allow him to style his hair in one of the styles approved for the girls. Bun isn't one of the hairstyles approved for his age group. He's only 8.

Could you recommend a few styles? If it's close enough to the styles they approve, I'll run it past the faculty and see if they approve. Pictures would help.

    3. Hi! Anandita, I am so happy to learn that you let your son grow hair. He is in my fraternity. I am a long hair man. My hair length is mid back. Oiling hair is a good practice and I also follow the same. I wish a long and healthy hair for your son.
I understand your challenge. Don't cut his hair. I will suggest few ideas to convince school management.

      Delete
  14. Hi Anandita, Ideas given by Pooja are really good. I currently follow these ideas. I work in a professional set up. Everyday I elaborately apply hair oil and neatly comb my hair and make a braid of hair. I sport slick hair to ensure that hair strands aren't strayed. In office I hide braid in shirt. So it's in line with office discipline. I sport beard too.
But in case of your son, if he sports hair bun or braid, he will be misunderstood as a girl. I think he has not attained puberty so beard won't grow. Other students may tease him, make fun of him. Which will hurt him.
I suggest, let him sport a topknot like a Sikh boy. Instead of making bun at nape, make a bun on top of head and wrap it with cloth like Sikh boys headgear. (It's called patka). He will be considered as a Sikh boy and not girl.
You can convince school management that we have taken a vow not to cut his hair. And "Patka" is a decent headgear. They should not object it.
Once he is back home, you can open his topknot and he can sport hair in ponytail or braid as per his wish.
Topknot is a good hairstyle for boys. It will improve his concentration. As you can see all our gods sport hair in topknot (Shiva, Ram, Sages, Rishis so on...
I hope my suggestion helps. But don't cut his hair. It's a divine gift.
    Regards,

    1. Hi Priyamvad. Thanks for the advice.

I'm not worried about him being offended by being mistaken for a girl. He's gone through it all ever since he started growing his hair. He sees it as their mistake. To quote him " if you think an apple is an orange, should the Apple feel bad? No. You should."

For him, hair is hair. If you have good hair and want to grow it, grow it. If you don't, don't. He already knows gender and sex has nothing to do with the length of his hair. In fact he loves it when I put his hair in pigtails. He loves how it tickles his shoulders.

What I want for him, is a style that suits him and keeps the school happy. Top knot is something I'll do if I can't find another style for him. Besides, I'm hoping for multiple styles so that he doesn't get bored with the same style every day.

      Delete
  15. That's the spirit Anandita. He should definitely be taking pride in having long hair. And if you oil his hair properly, it's bound to be superb in texture and grow long and strong. See these styles

  17. The wedding was amazing. On the day of the wedding, I opened the package marked "Wedding". In it, Reshma had kept two sets of clothes. One was a powder blue saree and the other was an indigo kurta and a dhoti.

I took both sets of clothes and went to the girls' room. I was told I was to meet them there to get dressed. When I went in, everyone was busy getting ready. Some of them were on their way to take a bath, some were getting their hair oiled and braided, and some were getting their makeup done.

I already had bathed. So, I sat down to get my hair oiled. The oil was coconut oil infused with flowers, primarily jasmine and hibiscus. My oiled hair was braided and put in a bun. As my hair was being braided, Reshma came, with a towel wrapped around her bust, and sat next to me. I told her I saw two sets of clothes and asked her which one was I supposed to wear. She informed me that it was up to me. I told her she picked out the clothes, she gets to choose. She smiled and said "well.... you do look really good in blue."

one of the makeup ladies we had hired, asked me to sit in front of her. She spent the next 15 minutes painting my face. She abruptly stopped and said "we'll do the rest after you're dressed".

After she draped the saree on me, she asked me to sit down again. Reshma handed her a box. The lady set the box down in front of me and opened it. It was the ornaments I needed to wear. She first changed the ear rings I was wearing to something like this: https://s3-ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/cdn1.zepo.in/upload/product_photos/base/0/40/16/original3.2625542.2.jpg

She added a few necklaces, bangles, and a heavy set of anklets. The box also contained a nosering but since my piercing hadn't healed yet, she decided not to change it.

She untied my hair and re-braided it and tied it as a bun. she then grabbed a long strand of flowers, folded them a few times and added them around the bun.

She reopened her makeup case and added the finishing touches. She added eyeliner, lipstick, lip gloss and a bindi.

She announced that I am done and ready for the wedding. I got up and walked to the other end of the room. As I walked, I couldn't help realise that every step make a sound and I could hear it over everyone's chattering.

I stood in front of the mirror unable to take my eyes off myself. I was couldnt believe I was wearing a powder blue saree with a silver sleeveless blouse, with my hair in a braided bun adorned with flowers.

Saree looked something like this but with silver intricate embroidery: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KrZykq0kWE8/Vh-q-fESSfI/AAAAAAAAAYo/Z2mbi4Vgw5s/s1600/715600bd393a266173f70d06e4b1f61d.jpg

    2. Wow! They made you look really sexy Neetu. It's a good thing you let her choose the saree. With that kind of a blouse.....good thing you got "cleaned up" earlier. I am sure the experience must have been transforming for you and really exciting as well. You need to start adding to your wardrobe now post the wedding. :)

  18. Hi everyone, Anandita here. I went and spoke to the school faculty.

They are not willing to listen. They say boy's uniform is shorts, shirt, shoes, tie and short hair. No exceptions made. Long hair is only allowed for girls. They were very condescending. One of the ladies, with a smirk on her face, said " if you want your son to have long hair, put him in a skirt as well. And we'll admit him, as long as he's having his hair up in braided pigtails." I have half a mind to do that!

Anyway, looks like I'm searching for a new, more accommodating school for my son.

today evening i oiled my hair lightly as its weekend there can be guest coming and did not wanted super oily hair.. soo i just got some oil on my head.. ends are still dry but i will get proper routine from monday.. As i got off time no worry bout anything :)) Feel free to suggest routine from monday..

Right now i got my hair in bun as been doing house work.. will just keep it like this only for sleeping..

  20. Hey Ruchi that's so good to hear. Finally your time to really relax and enjoy having oiled hair all the time. Follow the same routine as me. Always get a proper oil massage in the morning and leave hair in a bun till going out anywhere to buy something or for a stroll. Then best to braid and go. Then evening just do light oiling and get hair combed while watching tv or something. Maybe both sisters can do for each other. Don't worry about guests and all. Oiled hair looks really nice when it's combed and styled in a bun of braid. Guests will also admire your hair. Have fun and relax properly. Keep writing. Not sure how you will get back to normal work routine after these oily days get over :(

    1. Hi Ruchi. I'm happy to hear that you're finally able to keep to a routine.

I've been working from home since last week and my maid is oiling my hair twice daily now, except for days when I wash my hair. And it's definitely school day memory. But somebody else's school day memory. I never went to school with oiled braids.

  22. Absolutely....always feels so nice when hair are oiled well. Happy for you.....oily days are here again :) Best to get hair oiled properly in the morning. Feels so fresh after that. Remember to wash after 2 to 3 days to remove any sweat, dirt etc and then oil nicely again once your hair dries. If not sister once try to get oiling done from someone else like maid, friend or at the parlour. Getting a hair oil massage done is sooooo relaxing...I would have gladly done for you.

    2. Oh dear I wish you could have someone oil your hair too :(
Both sisters can enjoy a proper weekend of oiled hair! Why do you wait till evening? Best to oil in the morning only. Feels so fresh and nice to have your hair oiled after a bath. I feel like a part of me is missing if I have dry hair for too long after washing. But don't oil damp hair. It's not good. Once dry then I really enjoy the feeling of oil just coating all over my hair.

  23. Hi. Shruti here. The past few weekends I've been oiling his hair regularly. I resisted the urge to play any pranks on him. So, after oiling, depending on how heavy the oiling is, I either tie his hair in a ponytail or put it up in a bun.

On Sunday, my aunt called and said everyone in her apartment building is on the top floor terrace oiling each other's hair and asked if I'd like to join the fun. As I was leaving, the neighbor boy, subash, asked where I was going and I told him. His mother overheard and said "take suba along. He hasn't stepped out of the house all day. Get some fresh air. Talk to people."

So subash (or suba as his mom calls him) and I went there. My aunt explained that there was no power since morning and from early evening, they've been oiling each other's hair. The terrace was packed with people and by the time we got there, it was almost 7 and its to dark that I couldn't make out who is where. They had a few candles here and there.

After fifteen minutes of searching, I tracked down my aunt and sat next to her. She oiled my hair, braided it and added flowers. As I sat down, I looked around to find suba to introduce him to my aunt but I couldn't find him. After my hair was properly oiled and braided, a lady walker up behind me, bent down and swiftly added the flowers. She didn't even stop to ask if I wanted flowers. As soon my oiling was done, I got up to find suba. I looked around at people standing but he wasn't amongst them. So, I went down to see if he went down because couldn't find me, got bored and didn't want to listen to aunties talking. But he wasn't down either. So I went back up and searched again. And finally I found him sitting on the floor with a few girls, getting their hair oiled. A lady was furiously oiling his hair, scolding him for not wanting his hair oiled. I stood and watched from far as the she finished oiling his hair and tied it in a bun and moved on the next person. He got such a scolding from her that he was too afraid to move. Another lady saw his bun and said that "I thought we agreed everyone has same style today" and undid his bun, took out a comb and started combing his hair. He was too scared to say anything. She expertly braided it and commented that the hair is too short and it needs to be longer. He just nodded. As soon as she left, the same lady who added flowers to my hair started adding flowers to everyone in his group. He just sat there and let her do it.

He got up, came to me and said "can we go home now?" I felt sorry for him and gave him the keys and told him he can drive. He completely forgot about his hair by the time we reached my activa, because I expected him to undo his braid before getting on but he didn't. As soon as we reached home, as he was parking, I an up to his house and asked his mom not to laugh. I told her to compliment him.

As soon as she saw him, she hugged him and said " suba, you look so beautiful!" And gave him a kiss.

    2. Hey Shruti that's a great story. With power gone that's such a nice pass time. Women getting together for group oiling on the terrace. Must have been so much fun. Snacks, chatter, sweet fragrance of flowers and hair oil all mingled together. I am sure Suba is going to come to you again after the hug he got from his mom. Neetu I am sure your jealous. You should also organise such an event with your new found "gang of girls" from the wedding! Are you experimenting with clothes and accessories post the wedding.

    3. I have been reading the blog for a few weeks now. Thought It's time to finally post a comment.

I am Ram and growing up, I was allowed to grow my hair every now and then. My father was then working in the US and it was just me, my mother and my sister at home. When I was in school, I used to grow my hair till someone complained. When too many people complain, I'd cut it and start growing it again a few months later. I'd never cut it during the summer vacation time. I was in 7th when I last grew my hair. When the teacher told me that my hair is too long, and I need to get it cut, I told her the school rules does not mention anything about hair length. She replied that while hair length is not mentioned, hair style is mentioned. I ignored her and the next day I went to school as usual with my hair open and oiled. The teacher this time came to class with the sheet that mentioned hair styles acceptable in school and asked me to read it out loud. It said "long hair, that is hair long enough to be tied, has to be parted in the middle, braided into two and tied with ribbons. The ribbons can be purchased from the school store." She then took her chair and placed it in front of the class and asked me to sit down. She then parted my hair in the middle, braided my hair and tied them with ribbons. She then announced that I am not to remove the ribbons until I get home. As soon as she finished, one of the girls started laughing and said " he's not Ram. She's sita!" And the entire class started laughing. I cut my hair that evening and haven't grown it past my ears since.

    4. Dear Ram - Nice Story. You had to unnecessarily cut your long hair because of class teacher and the girl who mocked at you.
I wish, you can grow again.

    1. Great to hear that Ruchi. Happy that you are enjoying a carefree week with your hair oiled all the time. But why leave hair dry for the full day? Best to oil just after your hair has dried because it's not good to oil damp hair. I just love the feeling of oiling properly a couple of hours after a hair wash. When the warm oil seeps in and wets your scalp and properly coats every strand of hair from root to tip. Brings about a certain freshness when the hair is oiled properly and combed back neatly. It's like my hair is finally back to "normal" after a hair wash :))
Also I would not advise you to not wash your hair for 5 days in a row. It's important to clean your scalp and hair every 2 to 3 days. But the good thing is that you have oiled properly which acts as a conditioner and retains the moisture and good texture for your hair despite using shampoo to wash. That's why it's also important to oil hair once dried as you can lock all the moisture back before it dries out too much. You will really notice the difference over time once you follow this routine.

Yes you can make sure your sister has properly oiled her hair this week as it's even more important for her in younger days for her hair to be managed well.

I genuinely feel that oiled hair looks so stylish and trendy when managed well. It's a really sad that some people think it's not "modern" to go out with oiled hair.

    2. No i did not had my hair oiled straight 5 days! i oiled on monday washed on thrusday.. and again oiled and washed sunday.. that way! soo total from 7 days it was oily 5 days! i meant that way :)! and today i did oiled my hair perfectly.. just yesterday didnt felt like oiling it all over hair.. soo just oiled top part.. now they are all oiled each and every hair! feels soo nice ^_^! will play with them and style it after tea!

and yes my sister will have very oily week for sure! today morning before school! i just opened her hair and took normal to braid for school! did not oil! as oiled yesterday so it was quite oily only! and also oil was not soaked by scale.. soo tonight after dinner again i will oil her hair little more!

  26. Great Ruchi....it always feels soooo nice to oil hair properly. My mood instantly gets better after oiling, no matter how bad my day has gone, it just feels so soothing and relaxing once the oil seeps into my scalp and hair. So what style did you do? Today my maid had oiled my hair a little extra in the morning so I asked her to make a sleek bun with a hair stick right through. I couldn't play with my normal braid or oily ponytail, but the bun turned out so tight and sleek. It looked really nice. Now after dinner I just opened up the hair stick and my oily hair is all loose. My maid with oil light and comb for some time which watching tv.

  27. Hi! i mostly have my pony on! thats what i feel most comfy! sometime while doing housework i do keep braids! but thats like 2 style i do have on normal basis!

today after waking i just got ready.. woke my sister.. she got ready and i did her hair.. took 2 braids for school and she left like 1 hour ago.. i am finishing my house work and soon will open my hair and coat little with oil and take pony :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ya I like to keep my hair in a pony too when I am at home and whenever I go with western clothes to office. I just make sure my hair is properly oiled so the pony turns out sleek whenever I style like that at work or going out. At home it's just a loose pony or bun if I have just had a good oil massage and not going anywhere. Whenever I go out to functions and all I make sure my hair is styled in simple or fancy braids or braided or donut buns.

Honestly any style goes well with oiled hair. But I love the simple pony tail because I can play around with my hair and twirl my fingers around the silky oily ends of the pony. Become kind of a habit :))

Whenever your not washing keep coating your hair with little oil on those days to keep it sleek n shiny.

  29. yes indeed! i do coat my hair with little oil whenever i do my hair ( and thats afternoon and evening) now just waiting for dinner and all.. afterwards house stuff.. and will oil my sisters hair as i did not oil alot in morning.. and her scalps has soaked little more. soo will oil her hair little tonight..

    1. Hi Ruchi...sorry for the delay in writing. I hope you are doing well. I was not feeling well so was home for a few days. However oiling was being done regularly. Infact since I was home and unwell, got my hair oiled twice a day and heavy since it was my only form of relaxation :) Today finally back at work with a nicely oiled French braid and jeans n a top. Feeling so good to be out. Hows it going for you? Are you still at home or have to get back to your work routine? I hope your oiling routine is continuing and you got to oil your sister and her friends hair both last week. Must have been fun to oil and comb their hairs. Maybe you can ask sisters friend to oil and comb your hair. She may enjoy it and you will also get to relax being oiled by someone else. Feels so good.

  33. hii!! its been going good for me too!! and my work has not started and i have been having my hair oiled most of the time:)) can't say heavy but still oiled.! and yes i am sure french braid looks amazing i have been doing that to my sister lately.. as i mentioned earlier i would be bit strict with her routine as she was bit misbehaving.. and i was for last week and a half .this week they got study holiday.. like whole week.. soo thats good but i will let her have dry hair for 2 days now as last 10 day she was in strict routine..

and yes it was fun last week! she came on thursday before school!! she had nice dry hair as she washed on wednesday night! soo before they both went school i oiled her hair nicely .. and neatly combed.. as her hair are short and very straight not even single hair was poking out:) and than she just wore her headband ( as per school rule if no braids and hair are not able to keep braid they should have oiled hair with headband) and cute sidepin before they went to school:)

And bout she oiling my hair but noo :) they are too young..i don't think its still time yet that they would enjoy doing it to other..

for this week ! my sister will have next 2 days dry.. i can't say much as last 10 day were like what i explained.. and for me i washed my hair yesterday afternoon.. and yesterday only before sleeping i oiled lightly.. just spread little oil in palm and stroked through my hair.. repeated that 2-3 time soo its just lightly oiled for now.. will today evening after tea i will open my hair and oil normal..

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow super Ruchi! I am glad your enjoying having oiled hair most or the time. I am sure you enjoyed after tea....Opening up your hair and oiling properly. I love that feeling of making hair smooth and slick again.
Yes oiled short and straight hair with headband and side pin really sounds cute. Perfect style to school girls. Whenever she wants to grow her hair...her hair will be strong and thick and nice because of the oiling in her childhood.

For my sister as she had 2 dry day thats monday tuesday.. on wednesday she went to her friend this time rather than her coming here..! and when she came back from her place she had very much soo oiled hair:)) haha! as she had dry hair i guess her mother just oiled her hair very nicely! and she came back home with 2 tight braids ! after that i have been combing her hair little but no oil..now today she had single braid most of day so i will open her hair now before she goes to bed and oil it little ( as its nicely oiled) and massage for bit as they have study holiday week and massage will help her !

  37. Hi. It's been a long time since I posted anything. To be honest, I've been extremely busy with finding the school and summer vacation. And it looks like I have found the school. I spoke to the principal. She was very understanding. She said that my son's free to keep his long hair as long as he wants provided too many children don't have a problem. She took him for a walk around the school and had a casual chat with him. Just as we were leaving, she gave him two brown paper bags saying "welcome to your new school. Once we got home,we found that the bags were new student starter kit. One we got was girl's.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Glad you found the school finally who's accepting your son as he prefers to groom himself. So what if he got the starter kit for girls. As long as he likes it that's perfectly ok. So what did they give in the packets? I bet your son will look really cute with his long hair in braids or in a hair band with neat clips in the side. Be sure to oil his hair daily and then comb and style so that it's looking shiny, neat and perfect. Its an exciting time ahead for both you and him. Enjoy it thoroughly.

    2. Absolutely Pooja. I'm guessing they gave the girl's kit because of my son's long hair. The kit has a handbook on the rules and guidelines for the students, two ties, and a good set of hair accessories like hair bands, ribbons, barrettes, etc. It's supposed to serve as a starter pack as well as examples of what's allowed so that we can purchase more when needed. I'd love to hear ideas on how to style his hair. With pics, if possible thanks!

  38. Hi. It's been a while since I posted a comment. Suba had been avoiding me for a long time. Initially, I thought he was angry with me. His mother kept telling him to see me to get his hair oiled but he kept giving excuses. Finally, yesterday he came over. He coyly asked if i'd forgive him for avoiding me all these days. I said I would if he'd let me braid his hair into pigtails. He turned red in embarrassment and fear. I quickly hugged him and said I'm just joking. I oiled his hair heavily and did a high sleek ponytail.

I'm thinking I should get him something to completely win his trust. Neetu, Pooja, Ruchi, any suggestions? I was thinking cute ponytail holders and scrunchies.

  39. I am a Manish,28 years old male living in vikroli mumbai. I live alone here since last 4 years and my family is in my native.i keep long hairs upto my waist and normally tie it in a pony or a plait or some time in a bun. Since last 1 month i have been suffering with lice infection in my hair. As a stay alone i have no one to take care of it . So i discussed this with my neighbors daughter who is very close to me. She initially laughed at me, but then told me she will come next day afternoon. I wondered what she was going to do. Next day she came in the afternoon and showed me the lice comb she had bought for me. She asked me to bring coconut oil bottle and sit facing my back to her. She opened my plait and started searching for nits in my hair by moving her fingers in my hair. After some time she oiled my hair heavily and started combing my hairs with lice come. She found many and handed over to me for killing. This continued for about 1 hour until no more lice were found in lice comb. Then she tied my hair in bun and asked me to clean my clothes and keep the comb. She told she will repeat this after 2 or 3 days so as to get rid of lice. I thanked her. I immediately felt a huge relief by itching scalp. after another 2 sessions i got much relief. At last i thought i was free from lice. But again yesterday night i felt lot of itching and so went to her home to ask for licecombing. Her mother (my neighboring aunt) opened the door and told me she had gone to some relatives place for 2 days. She also told me that her daughter had discussed my lice issue to her and she can do tomorrow morning for me if i don't mind. I smiled and she asked me to bring my lice comb and come to her house. Today even being sunday i woke early and had bath took the lice comb and went to her place,. She also followed the same routine as her daughter did but oiled my hair more heavily. Just finished 2 hour of lice combing from her. She had asked me not to wash my hair and come in afternoon when she and her 2 maids will make me sit in our common balcony or terrace and do harsh and painful licecoombing. Also asked me to buy 3 lice comb and bottle of castor oil which she will mix with coconut oil and apply in my hair before licecombing, just purchased licecombs and castoroil

  40. Hii! finally back! as i was out in resort and all past 3 days it was dry days! but had tons of fun! today after waking up first thing i did was wash my hair properly as pool water and all that chemical! and let it dry by its own! after sometime i oiled it heavily that i don't normally do! i mostly oil my hair till they are nicely oiled but does not look super heavy!

today i directly used bottle and applied from it rather than taking on my palm and rubbing! so for that i just section my hair part wise throughout head and on each partition pour oil and spread it! and after my each and every hair were oiled i massaged my head for 20 min which was soo relaxing!! and than took a bun as hair were soo oily that could not leave it in pony! :)

hope this would do it for my last week's dry days and less oiling! tomorrow now will see if i will again oil it or not as today i did heavy oiling! not decided yet.. i mayb do it .

As per sister. she had holiday today in school so no oiling for her! tomorrow for her sure she will get oiling as school rule! hopefully will able to do proper oiling and not typical just slight oil just because its rule..!

  41. hi Neetu
    Thanks for your comment.
its good to know you keep your hair oiled all the time. i used to oil my long hairs twice in a week heavily. but since few days i have started oiling heavily twice daily. so now my hairs are oiled for all the time. yes i took the help of my neighbors since they are very close to me like family. last few days its been 4 times aunt and maids have done nitpicking and lice combing to me and we had group oiling session on Saturday and Sunday.
    regards

    1. Sorry was traveling for work so couldn't reply. I made sure oiling was done daily as I can't do without it. I always carry my oil bottle and combs with me as I don't want to take changes of not getting it in stores where I go. Best to have your essentials with you right :-)

Good to know your following your oiling routine Ruchi. Any new styles you experimented with? I hope you are keeping your hair oiled daily and going out also now comfortably with oiled hair. It looks so nice when you style properly. I got so many compliments on my travel for my oiled hair. My shiny ponytails and normal and French braids.

Hope your sister is keeping her hair oiled during holidays as well. It's so hot nowadays. It's essential to keep hair oiled for children especially. Keeps them cool and helps hair growth also.

    2. hey! nice you impressing everyone with your hair at your work trip:) and yes i have been having good routine throughout! mostly having oiled hair 6 days week! and for hairstyle been switching on mood! mostly pony and single braid if doing house work! so as tried twisted side braids/pony . many time french braids and if my hair are lightly oiled i just do side partition and comb my hair straight and keep it open with 1 side pin.

and for my sister as its vacation last 3 weeks are mess.. she had dry hair most of time! and can't even say much as its "vacation" meant free time for them! but still every weekend i still get strict and get her hair properly oiled and in braid ! hopefully can change that soon but for now its only weekends

    3. Great that your enjoying having oiled hair almost all the time. It is best for styling hair. I also do styles as per my mood only. But love how it turns out.

Slowly you encourage your sister to keep the oil in her hair into the week. It's really good for her.

  43. Hi everyone, it's been far too long since I posted anything. There haven't been much news to report these days.

Work has been taking up far too much of my time. Luckily, the maid is strict and oils my hair without fail. My mother has started sending me oil she prepared at home. Primarily it's coconut oil with henna and hibiscus.

Regarding the piercings I got during the wedding, I've still have them. The maid kept nagging me that I should keep them. But I haven't bought any jewelry for them yet. So I'm just going with what I had then.

    1. Hi Neetu. Yes we are all busy with work it seems. Glad to know that hair oiling is atleast going well for you. The home made oil sounds amazing. Sweet smelling and nourishing. Very inviting to get your hair oiled with it :)

Hey you must continue wearing your jewellery and use eyeliner etc. Flaunt your long hair with all the accessories. What's the point of having nice curly long hair, oiled and groomed well if you don't flaunt it with the full look. Come on now get your act together and start wearing nice earings, put eye liner, wear a nice chunky neck piece and a kada or a bracelet. Loose linen pants and short kurta would go really well too. Summer look for office :)

Now get a bit girly N have fun!!

    3. Pooja, I'll go shopping this weekend and get a nose ring as well. Send recommendation and I'll try to pick something like it.

I'm mostly working from home these days and travelling for meetings. But I'll do as directed as possible. 🙂

    4. Have fun shopping madam Get all the stuff you can to be decked up and wear your oiled braid in front of you. Looks really nice. Seriously loose pants N a kurti looks really professional in meetings. As I said the idea is to flaunt your look and enjoy being you so don't get shy about it. People will envy you I am sure. Nose ring just get a simple stud. That should be ok.
