DeleteMy maid took one of my old kurtas to alter as well. I had kept it on a hook behind the door and it tore. The tear is right below the tag. She said she'll fix it.
Pooja, even if I tie a high ponytail, my hair still brushes my collar and it gets oily. Do you have any suggestions? Maid said she has a solution. She said she'll fix the kurta so that this problem is solved as well. I'm not sure what she has in mind though.
Collared kurtas.....Not fashionable. Maid will probably remove the collar. But it would be best to wear a sleeveless kurta with a string around the neck with an open back. Looks sexy and your oily pony will keep brushing your back, which feels great :)
DeleteYeah, Pooja. My kurtas are mostly Fabindia men's kurtas. So they all have collars. I'm not sure what my maid has in mind. She said it'll take a few days.

Styles like these. Then you don't have any chance of dirty collars. Plus the feel of your long oiled hair on your back is really nice. And very cool and comfy for summer. Would be a complete make over for you and feel great while working hard.

ReplyDeleteI visited my mom last week. She made a fresh batch of oil for me. She gave me an oil massage as well. The oil was still warm so it felt amazing.
Always feels so good na to get an oil massage from mom. She must be thrilled that u have nice long hair and she can do justice to her home made oil properly. Traditionally mom's and daughters have their best conversations during hair oiling. I guess the warm oil seeping through the long hair has a real calming and opening up effect. The relaxed feeling makes for really good conversation. Your mom must be enjoying the same mother daughter feeling oiling your hair and then combing and styling and admiring you with nicely oiled and shiny hair.

I thoroughly enjoyed the "mother daughter experience". I'm sure Mom did too. She kept saying she's happy that I'm finally taking care of my hair. She didn't really style my hair. She oiled and combed it and left it open. Maybe next time.

DeleteShe's also taken a few other kurtas to alter. She said she's not going to do the same thing for all. She'll ask the tailor to do different designs.

DeleteThe maid's altering the kurtas because she knows I'm home most of the time. And when I go to office, I nowadays wear a shirt and trousers because I'll be going to attend a meeting.
We have a tradition of oiling our hair daily and heavily oiling it every Saturday. Me and my brother have been doing this till we went to college. While I was in college, I didn't oil my hair at all because everyone thinks it is so uncool. But the past few years, I've been oiling again.
ReplyDeleteMy brother hasn't started oiling his hair and he has grown it out and keeps it as a low ponytail. He's been growing it for almost 4 years without cutting it at all. Now, he's lost his job and is back at home and our mother has put me on charge of oiling his hair. She has put her foot down and told him if his hair isn't oiled, he's out of the house.
How can I make it as embarrassing as possible for him? I've already decided he's not keeping a ponytail. He has to do what I say. Mother won't let him stay otherwise.

Hey Nalini, not sure why you think it's uncool to oil your hair. It's one of the best things you can do for your hair and once you are used to it, you will see that you can get really sleek and stylish hairstyles with properly oiling your hair. There are just so many videos on youtube as oiling hair is definitely caught on among young indians. Hopefully you won't make it sound embarrassing but rather encourage your brother to oil and style his hair. And how much better can it be if his own sis is in charge of it. Get him to convert from his low pony to managing his long hair like a woman and be proud of it. Oil, comb and style his hair lovingly all the while encouraging him. I bet his hair will improve really quickly. Take him for a trim and then it will be long and healthy, ready for sleek braids, buns, high ponies and French braids too. He'll never want to go back to his old style. How amazing it would be if two of do the same oiled hair styling on each other and go out!

Hi! been busy past few days as school are starting now and i am faculty of school so have to little before actual school starts!
ReplyDeleteas it was vacation for me it was most of time oiled hair and such but my sister had many dry days but as school is starting last monday me and her were just sitting and doing something and i asked her to get her hair oiled as school is starting anyway and she agreed!
So i started oiling her hair section wise but as she was busy in her phone so as i was also watching tv. i just kept going and kept massaging her and oiling for 20-30 min :) and till we snapped out from what we were doing her hair were soo nicely oiled already! and as she did not had to go out for few day so she didnt complained much ! after that i started combing her hair and as they were soo oiled that it felt so good to stroke comb through her hair cause it was smooth and looked literally "wet". and than just took simple bun in end.!
now today as her schools started i did not had to oil her hair again as they were still oiled from monday and did not got absorbed completely! so today i just had to comb her hair for few min so all the shine came back and took 2 proper braids for school with side pin..
Ruchi good to hear from you. Wow! It's so much fun to oil hair. Very easy to forget the time since you are relaxing so much. I am glad your sister enjoyed and did not complain. The comb just glides through the hair when it's wet with oil. So how about you? Now that school started I hope you will still continue to oil your hair now that you are used to it so much during holidays. Atleast put light oil during weekdays so can style hair properly. Even if you have to wash it more often as you are outdoors. Better to put oil regularly. Then weekends you and your sister can do proper champi. Get sister into the habit of having hair oiled always. Call her friend over more.
Deletehi! yes i will try to keep routine going but its very hard cause of our humid weather it just create big mess most of time! but i will see what can i do bout it! and yes i will try to keep proper schedule for my sister for sure! as she do not have school tomorrow.. she came home day and washed her hair. soo i will be going to oil her hair tomorrow very properly for monday so can oil heavily tomorrow so it will get little soak and dont look overly oiled in school on monday! not gonna let her hair dry weekends!

I know because of climate being humid we do need to wash more. But better to have oiled hair than dry hair always. You can nicely oil and twist you hair a couple of times and put a claw clip. That way you don't feel sweaty and top part of hair looks nice and slick combed properly. Try it and you will feel good about it. You get such nice fancy claw clips also. It's a very nice chic hairstyle. Then at home you can open up your hair and oil and comb it back into your usual pony or braid. No hassel, looks great and feels great. Ya for sister also you should encourage her to keep oiled hair only. Washing is a must because we need to keep clean but then after a couple of hours you can get a proper champi done. Good half hour massage you can do again while watching tv. Anytime is oiling time :) So much fun to oil hair and get your hair oiled. I am sure your sister will start loving oiler hair if you stick to her schedule. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi. As its friday! first thing sister did after coming home was washing her hair! as last week i did not let her have dry weekend so this weekend not sure if she will listen but will see. and also its holiday till monday now so surely not letting her keep dry till her school on tuesday!

ReplyDeleteJust got back from visiting my grandmother with my mother. My grandmother is so strict of oiling hair. The day we reached I took nap and when I came of room I saw my mother in a tight bun with wooden stick and heavily oiled. When I asked my mother she said to follow rules. Then my grandmother asks me to sit on floor next to her. She opened my hair and combed it. While combing she asked the maid to bring warm coconut oil and oil my hair heavily. The maid oiled my hair very heavily and made middle parting with a tight bun. She took more oil in her palms and coated my bun with more oil to make it look shiny. After wooden stick was put in place to my bun. I noticed that both maids also had heavy oiled buns with wooden stick.
All of us had the same hairstyle. My mother hair would do be oiled twice a day while mine thrice. On weekends hair would be tied in a tight braid decorated with flowers. Initially I refused but grandmother made me wear flowers as she liked everybody to have flowers. When she saw my braid she commented I would look better with a longer braid as I have shoulder length hair. She prefers I should have waist length hair. What do u all think. ?. Now being home. Mother has become more disciplined about oiling. .She now takes extra care to fulfill grandmother request. No more dry hair day. Feel sad.

Hey Neetu. Glad to hear that you are planning to grow your hair to waist length. You get so many more styling options then. Really important to oil regularly and make sure that the hair is growing healthy and kept neat and manageable. It's also feels great to measure and check your progress every couple of weeks till you reach your goal. I bet your girlfriends are going to love seeing you with longer hair and maybe feel a bit jealous too :) Would be fun going with them for salon visits for oil massages and hair styling and mani-pedis too! So did the maid alter all the kurtas? Hope she got them done in good styles and you don't have the stains problem anymore.

ReplyDeleteI am so happy to have found this lovely blog about oiling hair. Such wonderful stories and helpful tips. Like Nalini and Shruti I have a similar dilemma. My son has come home for vacation from US. He will be here almost 4 months. He has grown his hair to shoulder length but it seems very unclean and untidy. He keeps scratching his head. For the past 2 weeks I am telling him to get hair nicely oiled but does not listen to me. Every time he sees oil bottle in my hand, he makes excuse and leaves house. On Sunday I was discussing this issue with my neighbor friend and my maid. She loves oiling and is very dedicated. She said to send my son to her place with maid on pretext of helping her with some work. She will take him to her regular oiling group and get his hair heavily oiled. What do you think friends?. If he can keep hair oiled for at least 4 months, I would be very happy.

Glad you found our blog useful. Oiling is such a lovely practice and so relaxing. If only more people get into it, they will understand how good it feels to have oiled hair. So easy to style and so good to keep hair nourished at all times. I can totally understand your dilemma as a mom. You must try all tactics to get your son to have his hair oiled. Four months would really convert him to loving oiled hair for life. If he wants to have long hair it's great, but long hair needs oiling all the more to look nice and also grow out more. Explain to him that if he doesn't get into oiling then he will need to cut the hair that he loves in no time because it will become unmanageable. Send him to your neighbour's and once he's part of a group there, it will be very difficult to refuse. They'll have his hair nicely oiled and introduce him to new styles also for his oiled shoulder length hair!

ReplyDeleteWhen I opened the door in the evening, I was so happy to see my son's hair heavily oiled and neatly combed and styled in a tight bun, My friend and maid were next to him and also had oiled and same styled hair. My friend then told me once they came to her place, she made him carry bag with with oil bottles and combs and he had no idea what was in it. When they reached the group he was really surprised to see all the ladies. They all welcomed him and made him sit next to them. My friend sat behind him and maid in front. She untied his hair and first combed it for some time. Then maid took oil and poured it and massaged it in hair. While being oiled the ladies telling him that he is now part of the group and has to learn to oil and style hair too. My friend then said his will be oiled for next three days and no washing to clean and strengthen hair. Today morning after breakfast maid called him and oiled his hair again heavily and in afternoon went to friend place where she further oiled and did licepicking. It is so nice to see his hair all oiled and neat. Please recommend any nice hairstyle for him, and how about flowers.

DeleteToday while getting my hair oiled, I asked the maid if he enjoyed the group oiling. She said at first he was nervous and fussy. Then the ladies made him feel comfortable and one even said that if he do not stop being fussy, they will dress him up like a girl. Then he said to oil his hair and not do that. We both laughed. My friend also suggested that me and the maid should also do daily oiling to make him feel comfortable, The maid also suggested that to get some nice hair clips for different styles and own set of combs. That is a nice suggestion.
Today while she was oiling his hair after, I asked to make a middle parting and make a side braid. My maid styled his hair nicely and said next time she will do a khajuri choti and coat it with jasmine oil. Right now we are all using coconut oil,

Looks like your problems are getting solved now. Must be feeling really nice to see him with such nicely oiled and styled hair. The group oiling was a great idea. Since he has long hair the women would have really enjoyed having him and made him comfortable after teasing him a bit. Since he didn't complain or run away I am sure he secretly enjoyed the experience. Yes please get him some hair clips, bobby pins, claw clips and colourful scrunchies and bands. Will need all that to keep his oiled hair neatly in place. Plus it makes it look good too. Finally he's going to start enjoying his long hair. In 4 months his hair will also grow longer with the daily oiling. You must also oil your hair daily and ask him to oil and comb for you to get comfortable managing his own long hair. Since his hair is not so long a nice tight oily french braid would look better. You can teach him to do a khajuri choti on the maids hair and let him try it out. Ohhh it's going to be so much fun and he's going to love all the attention and new styles after oiling everyday. Tell him to enjoy the experience and keep going for group oiling with the ladies as well. They will love to experiment and introduce him to many more girly styles.

DeleteSorry for late post. Been bit busy.Yesterday I went with my friend to market to get all the hair products. We got nice bunch of hair clips of different shapes. Also hair bands and bobby pins. Some nice different colour ribbons too, a nice set of hair combs, and couple of different oil bottles. While coming back I was telling my friend of your idea of oiling and styling maids hair. She said that is good idea and if both have same hairstyle it would be nice practice. What do you think Pooja.? When we got back home maid had almost done heavy oiling his hair and had made a nice neat khajuri choti. It looked so beautiful oiled. We showed them all the stuff we got. He was somewhat embarrassed with all of it. We told him hair decorated with all this would look very nice and more styled. The maid saw the different hair oiled bottles and took the jasmine coconut oil in a handful and coated the choti. She then made him smell the choti and he quietly went to his room. Then the maid oiled my and friends hair in turn. While oiling the maid told me she would like to oil his hair again at night time before bed. My friend agreed and said more regular oiling is always better. What do you think Pooja ?. He gets hair oiled in the morning and late afternoon.

Yes it's a great idea for the maid and your son to oil each other's hair and do the same hair style. That way when he goes for group oiling with the ladies he will be very comfortable and also enjoy himself. Wow you really got him a lot of stuff. Keep encouraging him to comb and style his hair on his own too. Then he'll love all the clips and pins and bands. Feels so nice to open up oiled hair and comb them and pin back again, all the while admiring yourself in the mirror.

On Saturday, the maid had hair oiled but open with bobby pins in front tightly pinned together, She oiled his hair heavily and did the same hairstyle. First time ever saw coloured bobby pins on him and looked so nice, then she stood in front of mirror and asked him to comb her hair. She guided him on combing hair. What do you think Pooja ?
On Sunday we had gone to market, and he washed his hair and went out with friends. In the afternoon we were having tea after oiling when he arrived. At first did not notice as he was wearing a cap. When he sat down to have tea and took his cap off we noticed it. I was a bit disappointed but the maid was angry. She immediately bought stool and made him sit between her legs. She took his t-shirt off and combed hair with middle parting. Then she took coconut oil bottle and poured it straight on hair with some dripping on face. She did not allow him to remove it. She massaged oil into scalp and combed it. After some time mixed castor oil and oiled his hair more. His hair was almost oiled till dripping, As we both had a single braid style. She made a double braid hairstyle and tied yellow ribbons. He looked so girly and I said next time we will make you wear dress if you disobey. The maid now suggested night oiling too. DeleteLol, I agree with Neetu. If he disobeys you more than you can try more cute hairstyles on him. Seriously though I think you should learn to let him love oiling and stylig his hair of his own accord without threatening him. Explain to him that having long hair was his choice and all you are doing is helping him make it look nice. Girly clips and pins are part of managing and making long hair look nice so he should not only get used to it but even enjoy the experience. Tell him that he's so lucky to have so many ladies fuss over his hair. So he should also get girly and comfortable trying out new stuff and learning from women how to oil and comb hair in different styles. Once he enjoys it then he will be really comfortable in the ladies group and love discussing about long hair oiling and new styles he would like to try out. He will also want to try out new girly accessories to go with his long hair look. That's the real transformation you are looking for so don't threaten him. Play with his hair and lovingly encourage him.
DeleteHello! felt like sharing my experience! i got 1 daughter. she just started her junior college that is 11th! and i thought after her school ends she would also become like typical girl and oiling would just fade away eventually! but luckily she have taken integrated course in which she never have to go to college and only for exams! soo now she is almost home schooling! and i am so glad about it.. and now i can oil her hair everyday and dont have to worry about her getting super western style

At her age it's so important for your daughter to oil her hair daily so that it becomes long and healthy and strong. She's going have the benefits of this life long. It's important for her to realise that oiled hair is part of our tradition and it's indian fashionable! Well oiled hair can be styled in so many different ways and looks so good. Impossible to manage dry hair in the same way. Once you comb and style oiled hair in the morning it remains in place the whole day. You feel cool and confident and look really professional. I hope your daughter realizes all this herself and carries her oiled hair confidentally wherever she goes. Out with friends or later to work also. You have a great time oiling her hair and keep posting about your experiences and how she's enjoying the new styles.

ReplyDeleteher course started last week from monday! so i did not said anything for few days but from wednesday i started oiling her hair daily till friday! she seems to not mind it much! she did opposed little but it was easy to handle! So everyday when she wakes up i just oil her hair after shes done with breakfast and bath etc! and for hairstyle i mostly been just taking simple pony but i have seen she keep touching her hair alot and play with it when its in pony! so from tomorrow i might start taking some type of braid so she stays less distracted!

But it's good to try new styles also. Make her look into the mirror also and show her how nice, shiny and neat her oiled hair looks. Slowly she will get the oil bottle and comb and tell you herself to oil and comb her hair.
Yes she don't mind it alot! thats good part just that i did not wanted to be distraction for her! so now i keep her hair in braid during her study time and afterwards i let her have any type of hair style she want!

DeleteHello.. yes i am glad she is listening to me! this week on monday as it was rakhi we were just busy most of day so no oiling but yesterday her normal study schedule was there so in morning she got her normal oiling for sometime. properly oiled her hair and than as she was going to study took tight single plait.! after 4-5 when she was done with her work.. i opened her hair and they were bit wavy because of plait! so i just combed it for 5-10 min and than took simple pony! not even single hair was out! looks so nice!

That's nice that you and her both are enjoying the routine now. Properly oiled hair is never out of place. That's why it looks so nice. I hope you showed her in the mirror also. Oil gets absorbed fast in young people so I would suggest put atleast little oil everyday when combing and styling in the morning. She will feel cool and the braid will come out shiny and neat. Tomorrow try oiling little more heavily and make a french braid. Looks so good. She will love it.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what count as heavy oiling! i oil till her most of hair get oily! and french braids does sound good! i will try tomorrow! and even tho i did oiled her hair today tomorrow i will again do it as weekend its her free days and i don't say anything! so tomorrow i will oil her hair properly again and take double french braids.
DeleteWhat I mean by heavy oiling is that one should oil both on the scalp and full length of hair from root to tip. Every strand of hair should be coated with oil to look shiny and the comb should just glide through the hair without any knots. Well oiled hair feels and looks so nice and such a pleasure to style. Some people like to put so much oil that it drips from the hair and that is messy which I don't like at all. I like my hair to look sleek and shiny and have the fragrance from the oil in my hair with me. That makes me feel cool and calm and confident with my hair in place in the style I chose for the day. I can't do without oiling my hair even for a single day but just enough so I can enjoy going out without feeling sticky or sweaty. Hope the double French braids looked really nice.

DeleteI mostly oil her scale part properly till it looks wet and than take some oil and spread in palm and stroke my palms throughout her hair few time soo her hair length also get oiled. but head part has more oil than length!
and yes french braid was really good! took double french braid for that day and kept it almsot whole day! later in night when i opened her hair it has such nice waves while hair being straight it had waves cause of tight braids! than i just combed it straight again and took bun before sleeping. and next day she washed it and had dry hair for weekends..
Today morning as monday , early morning i just took of few knots and started pouring oil on her scalps and after her hair got nicely oiled all over.. took simple straight braid without partition till she was studying and than she had open hair with hair band. had to keep combing her hair as open hair can get tangled quickly
Good to know that the french braids turned out very nice. Yes my hair also gets nice waves when I open my braid after work in the evening. I love the look of the oily shiny wavy hair and at times I just comb the top part and clip it while leaving the length shiny and wavy. Then I go for a walk or do my household stuff and bun it at night, sometimes with a light oiling and combing. Yes open hair can get tangled. Make sure you lightly oil if open for a longer time even if hair is already oiled. It will be easier to comb out and she will enjoy the feeling too of the comb gliding through her hair. DeleteNo she does not come by herself! i still do have to call her few time before she actually comes.. but that is okay i guess! This week as usual she got oiling on monday and it was normal day but than it was holiday on tuesday so as per me and her have decided no oiling or anything! and afterwards wednesday i just combed her hair into pony and nothing else as i had stuff to do outside.. and today it was again public holiday so she has washed her hair yesterday night! soo now tomorrow finally no public holiday so i will oil her hair! bit more this time as last 3 day were not that much at all! and also this time will convince her not wash hair on saturday and just wash it on sunday!

Pity that she's not coming by herself to you with the oil bottle and comb. Hopefully that will happen soon once she sees the benefits and loves how she looks with properly oiled hair. but today i did oiled her hair ! and heavily too..this time length were also looking wet from oil! as after i oiling combed her hair and it looked like she came out of shower :) and than took simple straight single braid for day.. and in evening i just opened her braid for bit combed it and too same braid again.!
The wet with oil look is so good. Combing is so easy and the comb just glides through the hair. I love your description about hair looking like you have come out of the shower. ReplyDeletePosting after a while as I wanted to see a positive change in my son about oiling. As you suggested he should enjoy hair oiling and styling. We were away for 2 weeks visiting family. So no oiling was done on trip. On way home I told him it would be nice to have oiled hair after trip, he said he missed it too. So happy to hear it. The maid greeted us and I took her choti and smelled the coconut oil of it and also made my son smell it. The maid smiled and said we both need a champi massage badly. For the next 2 hours she generously applied warm coconut oil and did champi. Getting oil massaged in hair and scalp is the best feeling. Don't you agree Pooja. After combing we both had choti and all 3 of us with nice oiled hair. Around late afternoon the maid and me were having tea and making small talk. My son came after napping had his tea, then went to kitchen and came out with oil bottle and combs. He went to maid and gave her both item and said to oil his hair more and style with bobby pins. We were both surprised to hear that and hugged him with tears of joy. Then he took the maid half loose bun and smelled it and said he loves the smell of coconut oil, then undid the bun and told to oil his hair. He made the maid put her long open hair in front sideways so he could enjoy the smell while being oiled. The maid combed his hair first and oiled it more while massaging the scalp. He told us that in the 2 weeks he realized how much he loved his hair being oiled and most of all being pampered. So now he wants to enjoy all oiling moments and try different styles. The maid assured him he will enjoy all the oiling times and can play with her hair as long he allows others to play with his. Any suggestions Pooja and Neetu. The next day I told my neighbor friend about it and she was also happy and suggested she will do something special for Ganesh charuthi. Will post more about that later. Please reply soon Pooja

The sweet smell of long oiled hair in coconut oil is irresistible! I am glad he realised how much he loves his hair getting oiled and massaged and pampered. How long is his hair now? You should definitely try out different styles and enjoy with him. Since he came to you with bobby pins, he wants all the accessories as well. You can experiment and try so many things now. DeleteHello! yes its been going good, past month been keeping her hair oiled 5 days a week for sure and sometime 6, always oiled properly as much as till when i touch her hair my hands get bit oily! and thats the normal amount of oil i use.mostly in tight braid her hair been so healthy and soft now cause of daily routine!
DeleteAs she is doing her college from home it is much helpful, now next 3 day she will go college for some presentation as they have to do this once in 3-4 month! so no oiling for next 2 days ( that i covered this weekend by heavy oiling saturday sunday) will let her keep her hair as she want and get back to schedule after this ends.
That’s great Gayatri that you are oiling her hair almost all the time. I am sure her hair has become really healthy. It has to with proper oiling and your loving care. I hope she also thinks the same way and enjoying the oiling routine now. I hope over time she will get comfortable going out also in nice oily hairstyles. Really it’s just a mindset that oiling is old fashioned and oiled hair is chipku etc. Actually oiled hair looks really beautiful and professional. ReplyDeleteDuring Ganesh week my friend had a nice surprise for my son. Next day she came over and made him sit in front of her, opened his oiled bun and combed his shoulder length hair. Then she took a long thick straight hair extension and attached it to his hair. Now he had hair upto his waist. She then told the maid to oil his hair fully. We were both surprised with seeing him like this. He looked very nice with such long hair. Then my friend told him he has to join all ladies for puja with hair oiled and styled with flowers. The maid then oiled his hair and made a nice long thick choti. Then put some pins on side to keep hair intact and then nice white flowers gajra we all had same hairstyle for the puja. Some of the ladies admired his long choti and suggested he should have worn a girlie dress with churiya in hands. What do you think Pooja ? Sounds like a fun idea. Right now he is enjoying his long hair and playing with it. Any styles you recommend Pooja

I am personally not a fan of hair extensions as I believe that your hair will grow naturally if you oil properly and take care of it. I am sure he looked very elegant though in long thick oily decorared choti. Did he also like it? You should have completed the effect by making him wear churiya and bindi and a salwar kameez. Was he open to the idea? If he doesn't mind trying then why not! Since he enjoys long hair you should wait for it to grow. Right now short oily choti, french braid and simple and sleek oily pony tails are all great styles. He should also start using claw clips and to hold his hair together in a twist

DeleteHi Swaroop. Nobody should force you to cut your hair. That’s really wrong and you should object. But if your hair is growing long and you want it longer than grooming is necessary. I suggest oil your hair properly and tie back into a sleek ponytail. Use nice clips to keep the front hair in place. Once your hair is little longer then you can tie a nice short oiled hair braid or even a French braid. Once your hair is oiled well then any style looks really neat. Really I believe women or men should have the same hair styles and oiled hair makes that possible.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to share an effective method of keeping kids from fighting. Every time the two of them are not getting along, I make them sit down on front of me and I braid their hair.
What I do is I separate the hair on each to two, two thirds on one side and one third one the other. If the one third parting is on my daughter's right side, I'd part the one third one the son's right. And I merge the two one thirds and braid the hair on both of the kids as one big, thick braid.

ReplyDeleteBut every weekend we oil each others hair properly! as its no college . so every saturday morning or evening we just take oil in bowl and use cotton and apply oil over scalps and ends! and while oiling also use hairbrush through to spread little!
Great to hear that you want to maintain oiling your hair at least on weekends. Must be feeling so good to soak the dry hair with proper amount of oil and get massages by each other. I would urge you to not care about what others think and keep oiled hair during the week also when you go to college. Once you style and braid then oiled hair looks so nice and professional. If you like to have oiled hair then there is no need to worry about what others think. Maybe you will start a new fad in your college with different styles of oiled hair, encouraging your friends also to do the same.

DeleteI think you should do the exact opposite. Why don’t you get your long hair highlighted. Nice auburn highlights assuming you have black hair. Highlights look great when your hair is open and they also stand out really well when your hair oiled and braided or bunned. Also while at the salon get a facial done, lip and eyebrow threading. Next trip to office go with eyeliner, highlighted hair and for a change wear one of your open back Kurtis if you are bold enough.

Maybe you can’t do this in the office, but maybe have coffee or something with them in shorts and sexy top. Before that go to the same parlour you went to earlier and get your arms and legs waxed. Also get a facial and threading done. Get your hair styled into a French braid and wear your Best earrings and a bracelet and neckpiece. Meet them for coffee like that and they will see that you are not shy of flaunting yourself. That will never make them bet to have you cut that beautiful mane you have grown with painstaking care.

I have been growing hair since 01 Nov 2010 and just 1 month to go for completing 7 years of growth. My current hair length is arounf 3 feet (tip to end) which is touching my waist and my observaton is somehow it has slowed down over last few years. But I don't have any particular goal for lengh. I have left it to nature.
ReplyDeleteToday, being Sunday I washed my hair with shampoo and conditioned it. After drying I just left them open for the whole day.
In the evening I requested my mother to oil them and make a nice tight briad. I asked mother to apply coconut oil. So mother took handful of oil and applied evenly on my scalp and hair. She ensured that every strand is oiled.
Then she started combing my long hair with gentle strokes and brushed back all hair neatly.finally she made a tight shiny briad of my hair.
Today evening I shall sport briad made by my mother with lots of oil and love.
Today is 02 Oct. Public holiday. I washed hair yesterday and mother oiled them elaborately and made a nice tight braid of hair. I slept with my hair in a briad.

Then I took bath and after bath, I neatly combed my hair with gentle strokes. Because of yesterday's oiling, I could comb without tangles and knots.
Since holiday today, I decided to sport hair in a simple chignon. It's practicle hairstyle. I made a simple hair bun at my nape and secured with a band.
My sleek bun is looking nice. My sister gave me compliment for the same. Just 29 days to complete 7th anniversary of my hair growth.

As per hair growth statistics, it should have been 6.5 feet because hair grows 1/2 feet every year. But somehow it has slowed down. This could be because I have not trimmed it in last 7 years as you know I have taken vow not to cut my hair. My hair ends have become coarse and I have to apply oil to make them smooth and managable.

ReplyDeleteMy cousin sister, Savitha visited us few days back. She admires my long hair and always supports me and encourages me to grow them. Whenever she visits us, she always takes good care of my hair by oiling them and massaging my scalp with herbal hair oil which she brings from her native place.
On the day she arrived, I was sporting my hair in a briaded bun. When she saw me, she immediately noticed that I had hardly applied oil as my hair strands were displaced. She was angry with me and suggesed me to get a good hairstyle done from her. She opened my braided bun and untied braid. She applied hair oil elaborately and combed my hair and made a tight braid. Not a single hair strand dispaced. I was bit unhapy because of heavy hair oiling since I had to go out for some work.
She suggested, Anna (Elder brother) wash hair tomorrow.
Next day, I washed hair and dried them. Savita wanted to try a different hairstyle. She called my mother and sister also. Firstly they oiled my hair and after oiling they parted them into may be 15 sections on head.
After parting hair, they started braiding them. So towards end, I had 15 oiled and tight braids hanging from my head. It was like some African hairstyle.
Then Savita pulled my hair on top of haed and made a braided bun on top of head. It was bit painful but I was open for experimentation.
After she was done with this hairstyle, my mother said, your hairsyle is similar to Lord Shiva. A topknot of matted hair.
Whole day, I wore this style and before retiring to bed, I requested my both sisters to untie bun and braids. It took some time. And finally I felt relieved when my hair were open, loose and hanging down.
Because of micro braids, my hair became curley and I hope by tomorrow they should be normal.
Savita wants to try some more hairstyles on my hair. My sweet sister.
I get this affection from my sisters because of my long hair. It doesn't keep male / female barrier indeed. They just feel I am like them. I am thankful to god for giving me an opportunity grow hair and be a long hair man.

ReplyDeleteThis weekend while getting my hair oiled, I realized that I did not post to give you update. My son is back in college, so now it's just me and maid. Even I got so busy that neglected my hair oiling. This weekend the maid made sure I got my hair heavily oiled. Like you said in earlier post, my son wants to grow hair naturally and he is patient. His favorite hairstyle is fishbraid choti. Before he left we asked him if he would wear churiya and bindi with long hair. He got shy and said when he is back in December we can experiment different looks. Today my friend also dropped by and was discussing with her about it. She was very encouraging and said she would get salwar kameez as a gift. What do you think Pooja. Suggest some ideas or looks to experiment with. Right now my hair is nice oiled with coconut oil and in a long choti.

Great that you noticed that your hair was getting neglected. You cannot neglect oiling for long or else your hair gets dry and damaged. I bet you must have felt so relaxed during the heavy oiling with oil seeping through your hair. The fact that your son was shy meant he secretly welcomed the idea of experimenting with looks. His hair will also be longer by December. You can pretty much try any hairstyle then with oiled hair. French braids, his favourite fishtail, bun with hair stick. Even though western wear also goes very well with oiled hair, the Indian look with salwar, kameez, bindi, churiyaan and jhumkas look the best. Prepare your son and get him excited and looking forward to dressing up and having oiled hair styles by sending him pictures and videos of the traditional Indian look with oiled hair. There are just so many pictures on Flickr and videos on YouTube. By the time he comes he will want to try out everything from the first day onwards
DeleteHi Everyone. I want to post one more experience. Since my cousin sister Savita is residing at our place during her college holidays, I am having great time with my hair in her company.

Since today was a working day, my hair were coiled in a bun on top of head like a Sikh man. I had wrapped cloth around my hair bun.
When I reached home, Savita persuaded me to change my hairstyle. She removed the cloth wrapped around my topknot. She opened my hair bun loosend hair strands. My hair were hanging like a waterfall.
Then she insisted on oiling hair and brushing them back. I surrendered to her.
She applied Dabur Amla hair oil today. She loves its aroma. She gave a wonderful head massage. I was sitting on a table and she was standing behind me. After nicely oiling my hair, she brushed hair back and neatly comnbed all hair. She applied hair oil to all strands evenly and again combed.
After oiling and combing, she made a nice braid. It had come out really well.
Then we went to dinner with my family members in a nearby restaurant. I heard several people complimenting me for my long, thick and lusterous braid as they mistaken me for a girl with long hair from back.
I held my braid in hand and smelled it several times. Sweet smell of Dabur Amla hair oil was alluring.
Dear God the almighty, I am indeed thankful to you for giving me an opportunity to grow my hair. For blessing me with long, strong and thick hair and for my dear relatives who love my hair and take care of my hair.
I love my long oiled braid.
