ReplyDeletePooja, Sunday was interesting. I met them for lunch. I wore one of the kurtas the maid had modified and had the maid oil and braid my hair. She did a fishtail braid.
DeleteDuring lunch, one of my colleagues "accidently" spilled curry all over my kurta and jeans. She playfully said "oops. Looks like you need to change out of those clothes. Luckily, we brought some." She then handed me a packet and said "go to the toilet and change. We'll wait"
Inside the packet, there was a salwar kameez. This was designed to be very form-fitting and had a zip under the arm. The packet even had panties and a padded bra.
Knowing the colleagues, I knew I had to wear it as expected or I'm back to cutting my hair.
So, I put on the salwar kameez. It felt like it was one size too small.
When I went back to the table, everyone was laughing! They didn't think I would wear it. The colleague who spilled the curry looked in the bag and said " wow! he wore it all".
All through lunch, they kept making fun of me, saying how pretty I look and that I am a "heartbreaker".
One of the girls also took a pic of me and opened an account on a matrimonial site, saying "let's see if pretty Neetu can find a handsome husband".
During lunch, I could feel them putting their hands on me from under the table. those sitting across the table kept rubbing their feet on my legs. one of them used their feet to pull my chappal off my feet. All of them pretended that they dont know what is happening. A minute later, while the touching is still going on, I felt someone pushing my chappals back on to my feet. As I put my foot into the chappal, I realised that what is on my feet is not my chappal. Whoever took my chappal has replaced them with heeled sandals.
Knowing that if I said something, I would just make matters worse, I kept quiet and ate.
After lunch, we walked for an hour through a nearby market. They kept stopping at every other road side vendor, looking at bangles, earrings, bindis. As you can guess, as we moved from one vendor to another, the things I am wearing is quickly increasing. When I left the house, I had no makeup, no jewelry, no accessories whatsoever. Now as I walked from shop to shop, I am wearing kajal and lipstick. I have earrings, and a nose pin. I have a bindi and both arms are upto my elbows with assorted bangles.
My feet was hurting from walking in heels through a crowded market. I was thankful when they decided to enter a saree shop. It was my opportunity to sit down. But I was not allowed to sit for long. Every time the girls saw a saree they liked, they would make me stand in the middle of the store and have the store boy drape the saree on me. The boy does not question the gender of the heavily-made up person standing in front of him and used every opportunity to touch and feel every inch of me. The girls just stood and laughed as I stood letting him slyly feel my boobs.
The girls chose five sarees. I paid. And we moved on to a tailor. The girls got the tailor to measure me for blouses for the five sarees.
The girls told me that they had great fun humiliating me and that I was free to go home. They said they will make me wear the saree to office once the blouses are ready. They want me in office in sarees for an entire week.
Wow! Neetu. Sounds like an adventurous, exciting and funnnn Sunday for you. What fun be with the girls and just be one of them for a while. Did u tell them that u didn’t feel humiliated at all and secretly enjoyed the whole time ;)
DeleteSo are you looking forward the saree week? How would that work in office? I hope they allow you to dress as you please. Why should it matter as long as you do your work right. Long oiled hair, saree, bindi, bangles and make up! The whole deal. Must have been so much fun and really got out the woman in you.
Make sure you try different hairstyles as well during then saree week and get your oiled really well. Braided bun, oiled open hair and all types of well oiled braids would go with the Indian saree look. Don’t wear your hair in a pony ok.
I don't know what I'm going to do. Women wear sarees to office all the time. So sarees are technically part of the dress code. But I'm not sure how everyone will react when a guy comes to office in a saree.
Delete.... And yes. No ponytail with a saree. If I'm in a saree, I'll go full feminine!

I want to share my today's experience.
Today is Deepavali day and its one of the most auspicious day as per Hindu calender. This day we visit temple to obtain blessings of god the almighty Lord Shiva.
Yesterday night, my cousin sister Savita gave me head massage after applying lots of coconut oil and then she made a loose bun of my oiled hair. She requested me to accompany her tomorrow to Shiva temple being her companion.She requested me to dress like a woman and accompany her.
I happily agreed her wish as she took great care of my hair and because of her care, my split end problem resolved.
I woke up today morning and shaved by beard.
I washed hair with shampoo and then applied conditioner. Then again I wahed conditioner off my hair. I rolled my hair in a towel turban to dry.
After some time, Savita came to my room with a pair of her clothes and some accessories. I was in my shorts. Savita asked me which dress you would like to wear? I was not comfortable with saree hence I opted for Salwar Khamij.
She asked me to sit on table and she stood behind me. She opened towel turbon and my long hair cascaded on my back. She dried them again with gentle strokes of towel. She started applying Dabur Amla hair oil to my scalp and hair. After hair oil application, she started brushing my hair back. She combed my hair several times in order to make them straight. After neatly combing, she made a nice tight braid of my long hair. I requested her to make braided bun at nape. She rolled my braid into bun. My hair looking sleek and neatly tied into bun. Not a single strand displaced.
She applied light make up on my face and stuck a large red bindi between my eyebrows.
Then I wore her salwar and khamij. She also gave me dupatta, earrings and bangles
After completing my hair and make up, she hugged me and kissed me on cheek as she said Anna (Elder brother) you look my Akks (Elder Sister). I wish you were my Akka. Please never cut your hair. I want you to grow hair so that I can make you Akka, whenever I wish.
I was moved by her affection.
Then, I oiled her hair and made a nice briad of her hair. My mother brought gajra (festooned flowers) and wrapped it over my bun and attached to Savita's braid.
Then we headed for Lord Shiva's temple. 3 women plus myself a man in dress of woman.
In the temple, I worshiped Lord Shiva as if I am Parvati, his consort. I thanked Lord Shiva for giving me an opportunity to grow hair so that I can worship him as male devotee as well as female devotee.
After temple visit, we returned home. I changed clothes. I washed off face to remove make up and opened my braided bun. Today I decided to keep my hair in a pony tail.
We spent good time with family friends who visited us. Eveyone complimented me on my hair length and sleek, healthy hair

Wow! Priya, you're lucky to have such wonderful family. I believe the masculine and feminine lives in all of us. When we have our hair oiled and braided, we are enjoying the "feminine".

True Neetu. Both Priya and you should enjoy the feminine as much as you please. Sitting down hugging your knees with your long hair cascading down your back while a lady is lovingly oiling them for you. And then combing and braiding them while you laugh and chat with her. Definitely would bring out the woman in anyone. Lucky u’ll to be able to have long beautiful hair. Always take care of them and be open about how you want to feel.

DeleteSeriously, this is an experience. And most men are missing out. Growing my hair and getting it oiled and trying out different hairstyles is life-changing fun.
You have so many girlfriends Neetu. They seem to be playful, but treat you as one of the girls only. Why don’t you suggest to them to have regular group oiling sessions. Where you gals get a chance to let loose and have fun. You can get your hair oiled, learn new styles, oil their hairs, try out make up and accessories on each other, dress up, shop together, paint each other’s nails and just chil and spend all out feminine time together. I am sure they wouldn’t mind you among all of them. And through these group oiling and women only sessions, you will get close to one of them and find the soul sister or aka that you are looking for.

ReplyDeleteI want to share my oiling experience and get some feedback. Earlier this year my mother hired a new maid. She must be in her late thirties. One thing that struck me was her long thick braid upto her knees which was neatly combed and oiled. We have always been a non oiling family. After a month or so once I got to know her I complimented her hair., she liked it and made it a point to comb and oil her hair in my room. Slowly I noticed she started oiling my mother hair during weekends. I was surprised as she never oiled before. I asked her and she said the maid convinced her to oil her hair. One weekend the maid came to my room with a bottle of coconut oil and some combs. As usual she opened her hair and oiled it and then combed it and left hair open. She then ask me to come over and sit on stool while she stood behind me. So I sat in front of mirror. She first neatly combed my hair for some time. Then opened bottle and poured oil straight on to bair. She massaged and oiled my hair very heavily. While oiling she told me that she wants to take care of my hair like she is doing with my mother’ hair. So every weekend she would oil my hair both days. I must say i enjoyed her oiling and even my hair quality improved too. A month after I wanted to get haircut as hair was growing long so I told her about it. She got a bit mad and said the whole point of oiling is to grow hair and not cut it. So she made me promise not to cut hair and oiled my hair heavily. In time I started loving my hair been oiled. This past weekend I was home and my mother told me to call maid from terrace. It was evening so I went to terrace to look for maid. I saw she was sitting with a group of other maids and they were oiling and combing each other. She saw me and called me over and asked me to join them. I was embarrassed and told her Mother is asking for her and walked away fast.
Later after dinner she came to my room with oil and while oiling she told me she didn't like it that i left like that. She was oiling also a bit rough and more oil. She told me to come next weekend with her to terrace for group oiling. Please advise as to what should I do ?

Welcome to the group Sumit. If you enjoy oiling and love getting your hair oiled....who does not once your used to it :) then you should try out what the maid says. I am sure you will enjoy the experience. It’s a nice feeling to oil someone else’s hair too. If you want to grow your hair long then learning from ladies how to oil and braid and manage long hair is the best thing to do

DeleteNice to meet you and thanks for replying. You are right I do love oiling and look forward to weekend oiling. I never realized oiling relaxes you so much and specially with coconut oil. It's just that I get nervous with so many ladies around. Only yesterday I was walking towards the apt complex when two ladies stopped me and said how come I didn't come for oiling session and why my hair is dry. I told them I only oil during weekends. They were like come to terrace with Shanti on Saturday and they will take care of oiling my hair. I told them I am not sure and walked away. Later I told Shanti about it and she laughed and said how all the ladies want to oil my hair as I didn't show up. I told her she can oil my hair as usual but she is like I have to go with her for group oiling . I am nervous. Please advise Pooja.

ReplyDeleteI hope all is well and oiling is done regularly. Now oiling is being done everyday and the maid makes sure I don't miss a day. By December she wants us both to have thicker and hopefully longer hair than now. My son called last week and said he is doing well and oils his hair at least three times a week. He also said he will be home before his birthday and he want to do something nice. Do you have suggestions ? Pooja and Neetu. While oiling we do miss him a lot and specially him walking with a oil bottle in hand and a comb. The maid sister is also going to be visiting in December so she is looking forward to a lot of group oiling session s. Please reply soon Pooja. Congrats Neetu on new page. Keep it up

Awwww I can imagine how much you miss him coming with an oil bottle and comb, wanting to get pampered. For his birthday you must do something nice. You should do the oiling and dressing up session. Keep it a surprise and give him a full feminine experience.

ReplyDeleteThank you both of you for giving me good advice. It was the best oiling time ever. In the afternoon Shanti came to my room and told me to relax and listen to everybody. She gave me a mat, a bottle of coconut oil and three comb. She too had the same for herself. When we went to terrace all the ladies were there. Soon everyone were opening hair for combing and oiling. Two of the ladies made me sit with them and nicely combed my hair. One of them opened bottle and poured oil straight on head. Some oil dripped on face and one of them massaged face with it. While oiling they asked me my routine, after I told them, they said to oil my hair everyday and if I am home all day to have it oiled three times a day. I should wash my hair three times a week. They would take parts of hair and massage it with oil. After that another lady checked my hair for lice and oiled more. All of them took turns to comb and oil my hair. Lastly Shanti said down and combed my hair tightly and tied a ponytail. Then another lady coated my pony tail with some sweet smelling oil. All the ladies had tied their hair in long thick choti. One of them had a choti so long it almost touched the ground. Then all of them told me to come every weekend for oiling session and next time they will teach me to comb their hair. When we reached home Shanti told me she will oil my hair everyday as the ladies suggested as she want me to have long hair like hers. What do you think Pooja and Neetu.? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Glad you went for the group oiling session and enjoyed the experience. It is always so much fun. Yes ofcourse you should grow your hair long. Hair till your mid back or waist is so much more fun to oil and style as it gives you so many more options. Plus if you want to do group oiling with the ladies then you also need to feel like them and have your own thick chotti :) Oil your hair everyday and go shopping with your maid to get some pins, clips, hair bands and scrunchies to neatly style your hair and have that sleek look. How long is your hair right now?

DeleteSince I have not cut hair for some months, my hair is bit longer than shoulder length. As now daily oiling is being done, sure hair will grow longer. Today afternoon one of Shanti lady friend Geeta dropped by. They were in the kitchen chatting, when I went to get some water Geeta greeted me and told me to sit with her. As I sat down she told Shanti to get oil and comb. She started rubbing my hair with her fingers. Shanti came with oil and poured a lot on head. Geeta massaged the oil and tapping my head. While tapping chap chap sound was done due to oil. She advised Shanti to start mixing castor oil to coconut oil as it will make hair thick. What do you think Pooja ? Shanti said she will as she wants my hair to grow till waist and wants it straight and thick so can make long choti. She said later today she will oil my hair with castot oil after dinner. Geeta gave me a nice champi massage. Then combed my hair all the way back. She took two long pins and put them in front so my hair would stay in place. I told them about getting some hair pins and clips, they said on Saturday we will all go to market to get hair products. What is scrunchie Pooja and how to use it. Reply soon

That’s great Sumit. Now you have both Shanti and Geeta looking after you hair. Yes castor and coconut oil is a good combo for thick hair. I like the sound of Geeta playfully rubbing your hair. She really wanted to give you a good champi and glad you willingly complied. It’s such a good feeling na. Hope you liked your hair neatly combed back and pinned up in front. Oiling gives such a nice look to hair. I am sure your shoulder length hair will grow and you will soon be able to use different colourful scrunchies daily with clips in front and an oily pony held by a velvety scrunchie. Looks so much better than a rubber band and much gentler on the hair too.

DeleteThank you for a quick reply. Geeta oiling my hair was not expected but I very much enjoyed it. She is one of the maid ladies in the group. I liked the oiled style she did with the pins. My hair was neatly styled and just the coconut oil being poured and massaged into scalp is best feeling ever. Later after dinner it was Geeta turn so while watching TV she came with a big bowl with castor and coconut oil mixed together. She had oiled her hair too so it was open and in front to the side. I sat before her while she sat on a stool. She took pins out and combed my hair first. She playfully put her long hair over my shoulder so I could smell the oil in her hair. Her hair smelled so wonderful. She told me to enjoy it while I get oiled. She evenly parted hair and put the mixture and slowly massaged the head and hair. The castor was very sticky and heavy. As she was oiling she told me on Saturday we will go to market with Geeta and one more friend to buy hair clips, pins and buckles. And then to oiling group after so hair can be style with pins and clips. After oiling she left my hair open and put four pins in front. She showed me style in mirror. She also said now hair to be washed only three times a week. What do you think Pooja ?.
Today I showed her the scrunchie photo and she said it will look good on me if it make bun on top of head. Today I washed my hair because of castor oil and later she again oiled it heavily with coconut oil and made same hairstyle.
How nice to have her long oily hair over your shoulder while you are getting your hair oiled. U must have felt amazing and a bit jealous too. If you oil your hair daily and wash your hair just 3 times a week then you will also watch your hair grow like that over months and years. It takes a long time to get long beautiful tresses so you got to be patient. Enjoy your outing to the market with the ladies. Please be sure in the group oiling to learn to oil, comb and style their hair too. It’s as much fun to do that as to get your head and hair massaged. Plus you will get to be their darling guy friend massage therapist who is carefree and wants to be just like them

DeleteHaving long oiled hair over shoulder is a great feeling and to smell the coconut oil. On Saturday we washed our hair and Shanti kept my hair open and put pins in front to keep hair in place. She did same style to herself. Later Geeta arrived with another maid friend who is Malti. Malti had the thickest choti almost touching floor. I jokingly said looks like a nagin choti and all laughed. Then we all left for market. While in auto the ladies were all seated and I sat on Geeta lap who kept playing with my hair. Later at store all three both all kinds of hair dressing for me and themselves. They bought hairbands, colourful pins and buckles. Even ribbons and scrunchie and clips and wooden sticks.
Now we were ready for oiling session. On ride back I sat on Malti lap, while rubbing my hair she said she can't wait to heavily oil my hair and decorate it. At oiling session I was told I was going to learn to comb hair. So while I was getting hair oiled Malti came and sat in front of me with Shanti next to me. Malti had her hair heavily oiled and I was combing her hair under Shantis instructions. Shanti helped me make a thick nagin choti :) for Malti. My hair was heavily oiled and Shanti and Geeta made a tight khajuri choti for me and decorated it with coloured pins and a hair clip. After oiling session all ladies were talking and Malti made me sit on her lap and she put her thick choti over my shoulder and was tapping my choti with more oil. She told Shanti who was next to us that all four us should have a oiling session once a week as she now wants to oil and take care$of my hair. What do you think Pooja ?

Glad you had such a good time going shopping with the ladies and then the oiling session following. It's so much fun to oil and comb other ladies hair too right. You must have had an exciting new experience. Malti really takes care of you and lovingly makes you sit on her lap. Did you enjoy playing with her long choti? Hope you continue to have oiling sessions with the ladies and keep growing your hair as well. Ofcourse Kajal and oiled hair have always gone together. So you must put Kajal always when you oil your hair. Which I hope is all the time now :) Its good for your eyes too just like oil is best for your hair.

DeleteHow have you been ? It been a long time since I posted.My hair has really grown form the last time we chatted. It is now reached my lower back due to daily heavy oiling. As you had suggested to be comfortable with the ladies and start oiling their hair. I am doing that now regularly. The ladies have accepted me as one of their own now. It all started one day when Shanti was oiling my hair and Geeta and Malti dropped by. Geeta was oiling Malti hair, when Shanti said it's about time I start to learn to oil and style hair. So Geeta helped me to oil Malti hair. At first it was difficult to handle such long and thick hair. Then to comb it and make a thick choti. They were happy with my first oiling and making choti session. After we were all heavily oiled. Malti made me sit on her lap and put her thick choti over my shoulder and was playfully stroking it.
Now I have become a pro in oiling and styling. I like fish braids a lot style with nice coloured clips. Please reply soon as I have more to share with you and also need your advice on something important

The winter season is coming up so oiling daily is very necessary. Fun too. Nothing like warm oil being massaged onto your hair in cool weather.
DeleteHello! yess its regular thing now! every morning she get oiled and than she do her normal day stuffs. and her hair got so much thicker and nicer that i keep it in double french braid or similar as its so nice volumed!

ReplyDeleteMy sister Uma moved to another town to complete her post graduation and my mother is missing her a lot.
She is recommending me to be like a girl so that she gets solace. She doesn't allow me to grow facial hair anymore. She wants me to be be clean shaven all the time.
On weekly off, she wanted me to take care of me like her daughter. She parted my hair in the middle and poured hair on my scalp. Then she applied hair oil to every strad of hair and made a nice single choti(braid) of hair. She applied kajal(kohl) in my eyes and a bindi. She gave me Salwar Kamij of Uma and asked me to wear it since it was Sunday.
I am happy fulfill wish of my mother. I am greatful to god the almighty for giving me opportunity to grow long hair.
Today morning, I have to go to office. Since I have stopped growing beard and mustaches, I had clean shave.
ReplyDeleteI rolled my hair in a bun on top of my head like a Sikh man and sported patka, a cloth wrapped over hair by Sikh men.
I was travelling in a bus and next to me was a pretty young girl with wonderful long, thick and oiled braid reaching her buttocks. She stared at me and said "Sat Shri Akal" a salutation which is normally exchanged by Sikh community people meet.
I responded her but I immediately clarified that I am not a Sikh man. She was surprised and enquired about my long hair sported like a Sikh man and I told her my story, my vow.
I complimented her on her long hair. She has also taken a vow not to cut hair as instructed in her religion and she has to apply lots of hair oil every day to keep her hair neat and tidy.
Since we share same interests, we became friends and chatted for quite some time about our hair care regime. Her brother also has long hair like me.
She was very happt to see a non-Sikh man taking a hair vow and sporting hair like Sikh. Some day she would like to see my open hair. I happily agreed for the same.
We exchanged our phone numbers and decided to meet either at my house or at her house. Let's see how it turns out. Will post.
That's such a nice description Priya. Glad you could open up to your new friend on the bus. As you enjoy long hair and oiling so much then it's such a good feeling to find a lady friend who appreciates this quality about you and you can open up completely. There is no need to hide your long hair in a pagdi with her. You can just be yourself and oil each others hair and try out new styles along with be totally feminine on clothes and accessories too. Happy for you that you have a woman now to share everything with. Hope your friendship flourishes and you learn lot of things from her about hair care and the feminine side of your personality.

DeleteI have 3 women in my life who appreciate my long hair and encourage me to grow them long and strong. They take care of my hair through hair oiling, head massage and helping me to sport in different styles. First are my elder sister Uma, my mother Laxmi and my cousin Savita.
ReplyDeleteNow, there is one more addition to this group of women, a young Sikh girl Japtej Kaur whom I met in bus and she was curious about my long hair. We decided to meet. Today being weekly off, we decided to meet at Japtej Kaur’ s home.
Since I met her, I stopped shaving and allowed facial hair to grow and I have been coiling my hair on top of my head like a Sikh boy in my home also.
My mother was upset with me as she wants me to be like her daughter at home wearing Uma's clothes, sporting hair like a woman and clean shaven.
Mother asked me, Why you are living like a Sikh man? I gave lame excuse.
Today morning, I again rolled my hair on top of head in a topknot and wrapped them in patka as sported by Sikh boys.
I went to Japtej Kaur’ s home. When I entered her house, I found two pretty girls with hair reaching their buttockss. I recognized Japtej Kaur the other one was her young brother with equally long hair. His name is Satvir Singh.
His mother entered in the drawing room. She was sporting her thick long hair in a nicely oiled braid.
Her father works in India Army and currently posted in Assam.
Japtej Kaur introduced me to her mother and younger brother. Her mother was so happy to see a Sikh boy but Japtej Kaur clarified that he is not a Sikh man but a Tamil boy with long hair.
They insisted me to remove my patka and show them my long hair.
So, I opened my topknot and let my long hair loose. With strokes of hand, I made them straight and brushed back.
My hair length is crossing my mid back. All of them appreciated my hair length and quality of hair.
Mother appreciated my vow, not to cut hair and encouraged me.
Since, Japtej Kaur and Satvir Singh have washed their hair, aunty wanted to oil and comb their hair. She asked me to watch their hair oiling
She brought a bottle of Sesame oil. Sesame oil is popular in Punjab for hair oiling.
She began with Japtej Kaur. She poured handful of oil in palm and poured on her scalp. Then she massaged her head by tapping her palm over her head. Again she poured large quantity of oil in palm and started applying on her long hair. Her hair was neatly oiled. Then she brushed her hair backward and started combing neatly. She removed tangles and matted hair and preserved them as Hair is god’s gift for Sikhs so they don't throw it in garbage but in Holy River at their pilgrimage centre.
She started braiding her hair and what a beautiful, shiny tight braid crossing her buttocks. Amazing.
Then she asked her to prepare tea for us and called Satvir Singh.
She asked her to take his hair in front and combed them in reverse direction. She poured lots of hair oil and combed his hair from his neck in front direction. After combing, she started braiding in reversed direction and after his braid was done, she coiled his braid on top of his head.
It was my turn. Mother suggested me to sport hair like Satvir Singh and I also sported oiled braided bun.
We chatted over a cup of tea and then I signed out.
At home, mother smelled my hair and asked me which hair oil you applied, when I replied sesame oil she was not happy at all.
It's clash of culture. In south India its coconut oil preferred whereas in north its sesame oil
Mother asked me to wash it thoroughly so that I can get rid of it.
It's situation like "Two States" movie in our home.

Good to hear your story Priya. Glad you have found new friends who share the same love for long hair and oiling. I am sure you enjoyed the entirely new experience at their place. Sesame oil is as good for hair as coconut oil. In fact in winter it generates heat so better for your hair to make it shiny and moisturised. In summer coconut oil is cooling for the head and provides nourishment. Explain to your mother and I am sure she will understand. Get Japtej home and make your mother give her a nice coconut oil champi and then you comb her hair. I think to enjoy and be proud of your long hair you should style it just like women with pins, clips and in nice braids and feminine looking buns. Why have it tied up on your head? Your mother also prefers it this way. I am sure she will be ok with the sesame oil once you be more like a daughter and get your hair oiled and styled from her and also from Japtej.

DeleteRegarding your question on why I sport my hair in a bun on top of my head. I work in a office and this hairstyle is very convinient to hold long hair. I wrap cloth on my hair in cloth like Sikh boy. So it protects hair from dust and pollution.
When my hair length was upto shoulder, I used to sport them in a ponytail or a bun. But the bun size is very large and if I sport braid, it crosses my mid back. Long CHOTI.
Also, I respect Sikh Religion a lot! I wish I would have taken birth as a Sikh, so I could have grown hair since my childhood and entire family would be sporting long hair irrespective of gender and it would have been fun indeed to oil and comb each others hair.

Yes, I take your suggestion of styling it like a woman. I do it while at home.

DeleteAs most of you would know, I had lost a bet and was taken shopping. We bought a few sarees and had gotten the blouses stitched.
Luckily for me, the next few weeks went by without them telling me to wear sarees.
About two weeks ago, several of us had to attend training in Thiruvananthapuram. The plan was to take a train to the city and stay at the hotel where the week-long training was being organized. Trivandrum being a coastal city,I was super excited. I packed a few beach shorts and swimwear so that I can hang out at the beach on the weekend.
The team that went for the training was me, Sarah who had come along for the shopping, and Fathima who I hadn't met yet. There was another guy and a girl but they were coming later for another training session. They would join us on the way back.
The train ride was rather uneventful. We reached our rooms and I opened my bag to find all my clothes missing. Everything had been replaced with sarees.
You must have been in total shock! Now whattttt....a full week only in sarees :)

ReplyDeleteI was shocked to find nothing but sarees in my bag. As I sat down on the bed, confused as to what happened, I heard a knock on the door.
I opened the door to find Sarah smiling ear to ear. As soon as she saw the sarees on the bed,she laughed and said "you thought we forgot, miss? You're attending the training in sarees! Five days five sarees! wake up early tomorrow. I'll help you get dressed."
She blew me a kiss, winked and left.
The next day morning, as she said, Sarah came to my room to drape the saree. She asked me to pick one and I said it's her choice. She picked a pink saree with a black blouse.

She tied my hair in a simple choti and did my makeup. As she tied my hair, she said "sorry! I didn't get time to buy flowers, girl! Tomorrow! I promise." I just kept quiet and let her do what she wanted. There was no point replying.
Soon we were seated in the conference room where the training took place. Sarah and I sat together. Fathima was seated far away. A few hours later, we took a break for lunch and Fathima met up with us. She walked up to us from behind and as she got near, she said "Hey Sarah. who's your frien.... oh!"
Fathima just grabbed my arm, turned me around and kept staring at me for a good minute. Her eyes kept going from my hair down to my toes and back up.
Sarah pretended as if there's nothing out of the ordinary. She just said "Oh. her? she's Neetu."
Fathima finally let go of my arms and said "H..H..Hi... Neetu. Shall we go for lunch?"
We ate lunch and Sarah kept telling me how to adjust my saree and to do this and that.
After lunch, the three of us sat together till the end of the day's session.
Once the session was over, Sarah annouced that we should go to the beach. I agreed and we hurried to our rooms to get changed. As soon as I opened my bag, I remembered that Sarah had switched all my clothes and did not even spare my beach clothes. All I had were sarees.
So I sat on the bed, sad that I can't go to the beach. Sarah and fathima had changed to tshirts and palazzos, and were ready for the beach. When I told them I cant go because I had nothing but sarees, Sarah said "plenty of women go to the beach wearing sarees. you can too!" and forced me to go with them to the beach in a saree.
Walking on the beach in a saree is a whole new level of difficult.There was not a moment I was not fully aware that I was wearing a saree. I just couldn't take my mind off it. After watching the sun set, we returned to our rooms and changed out of our clothes. Even in November, the coastal city is far too warm for sarees. My blouse was drenched and by hair was sticking to my back. I'm lucky I don't have to wear them everyday.

When we reach to salon , i park my vehicle in parking area , Ruta remove her Duppata, she has tied her hait in bun , before we enter to salon i told her " didi what kind of haircut you are thinking of"
She : my hair is too ruff at end , want to cut it properly in a stylish way ..
Me : can i show ur hair?
She open her hair , it was till her breasts . Hair are straight , I suggest her cut it till shoulder , she said not to short.Then she put clip and tied in ponytail .
Then we enter in to salon . I go to reception are and told about appointment. Then they told us to wait for few minutes. We took place in waiting are. There are many customers inside salon.Then i look at didi , she seems to be little bit nervous... I said dont worry ... You will be look good after few minutes. Then one young guy came to pick up didi , he is young approx 23 yrs old. He hand shake with her and pick her . I someone also come to call me. When i go there , Ruta didi was doing her shampoo. Then after shampoo she took sit exact beside me.
My haircut was began , they were still discussing about haircut and lenght .After few minutes they start haircut. That guy start combing her hair , then make some partitions .
Then he cut her back hair amlost just below her shoulder , she closed her eyes . Good amount of hair falling down on floor...
After few minutes my haircut finished, at thet time that guy was cutting her right side hair. I told her i am waiting outside, she ask me by eye contact hows her haircut going, i show her good luck thump .
After approx 15 minutes she came outside, looking fabulous, her front hair is more short and back just below her shoulder. She looks happy with new look . Thanks me to come with her and suggest new place.

ReplyDeleteSomehow my messages kept getting deleted. Welcome to the blog Rahul. My hair oiling routine is daily. Even if I wash my hair, I usually oil it within 2 hours of drying. In summers I oil once a day and in winters many times twice a day, usually in the morning and in winters at night also I do a light oiling. My maid gives me a proper oiling and combs and styles my hair before going to work in the mornings. Weekends I get a longer oil massage and more heavy oiling. I also go to the parlor to get my hair oiled at least twice a month. Whenever do I upper lips and eye brows or pedicure, I also get my hair oiled at the parlor. I first get it washed and dried and then oiled properly and styled. I agree that male hairdressers give a very good head massage. My maid is very good with oiling, but I like the parlor head massage. Usually the men don’t style your hair at the parlor after oiling, but they know me well so they always do for me. The male stylist is very good too. He can do a perfect tight French braid on my oiled hair. It looks so nice. They also do my make up after oiling and styling. I can’t do without oiled hair and I have oiled hair styles with Indian or western clothes. Braids, buns, twists, clipped and semi open, ponytails. I think all styles look amazing with oiled hair. My hair is up to waist length and I get trims every three months to keep it looking nice and at that length. I feel that it’s long enough to offer many styling options plus not too difficult to manage. I don’t want to grow it longer and have it looking thin at the ends. I really enjoy my hair routine. I also do yoga, drink plenty of water, go for walks and try to have a good diet so that my hair quality remains good.

If client hair is long, french braid is the best hairstyle for her. Normally i prefer to made bun after oiling. Uppen bun is also lool sexy. Boys secretly attracted to girl having upper tiet big bun .
Poojs you should regularly do hair spa also with hair massage.
Thanks Rahul. Please share your experiences oiling, styling and doing hair spa also. Oiling 2 to 3 times a month is too less encourage your clients to come twice a week. Offer a package deal to attract them. I also like putting my hair in buns also. I think an oiled hair bun with a stick to hold hair in place looks amazing. Ruta come to my place around 2 pm. I took her to my room and made her to sit on chair before mirror. Her hair were fix on head by a buckle .i go behind her ,open buckle, open her hair, which are up to her breast line . I check her hair , they were ruff and damaged from end . Then i ask " what you want to do today? " she said " i want to remove this ruffeness
" i said there are two way for it, either you give protein to your hair or cut ruff hair. " she confused what to do....
Then i said " let's do your hair spa today, i will give you a good massage , it will make ur hair smooth"
She " are you sure"
I silently start playing with her hair , moving my fingers between her hair then after few minutes i said yes i am sure. Then she said " ok"
(Few years ago Ruta's hair were too much thick smooth and beautiful , length till her butt . At that time i dream to play with her hair , which fulfill today. But now her hair are not like that still I am too much excited from inside because i get a good chance to play with her hair and massage her hair .
Next i am planning to convince her for haircut and also dream to play and cut Sanjana's hair too...)
I prepare material for hair spa , then took her to wash area to do shampoo on her hair .i put her chair near to wash basins and start washing her hair , give her good shampoo champi and clear all dust from her hair , start flowing water to remove shampoos , then together her all hair , towel put under her hair and tied towel on her head , then took her to near mirror , then i open towel , start playing with her hair , its great feeling to smell fragrant of shampoo and playing with wet hair of your favorite female. Then i took comb and start combing her hair, till date i have comb hair of many girls wet or dry but i found any girl look saxy when her wet hair comb neatly. For my pleasure i catch all her neatly comb hair for few seconds then i start to do partitions, then i start applying spa material on small portion of hair taken from each partition.
After applying spa material i start her massage .I always like to give head massage to female. First i do massage with fingers for few minutes cover whole her hear , i saw her in mirror, she was enjoying it . Then gather her hair above her head , make her head down , massage back side her head,then again do scalp massage with fingers, then tied her hair on her head with buckle.Then i masage her shoulders ( we both enjoy it) . Then leave her there and i go to wash my hand.
When i came i told her" lets wait to get it dry .

Hey Rahul. Loved your description. I am sure you give really good massages and I would love to take one from you. Who doesn’t enjoy oiling and playing with hair while oiling it, so I don’t blame you. I also get my hair washed at the salon just like you described before getting hair oiled.
ReplyDeleteRuta’s hair is so short anyway. Why do you want her to cut it? She also does not want to. With regular oiling it will become healthy again in no time. Ask her to keep oil in her and come to you every 2 to 3 days to get washed and do oiling again. Follow this routine for 3 months and you see how the health returns to her hair. You will get to comb her nicely oiled hair also and take care of it till it grows longer. Then you have so many more options to style also. Oiled hair styles look amazing. Have a look at the pictures put up by “Indian braided hair”on Flickr. You will get many ideas for your parlor.
What about other ladies? Do they also enjoy your massages.

That’s great Rahul. I am sure it must have felt great to oil massage 3 ladies hair one after the other. Properly oiling, combing and styling long hair is as much fun as getting your hair oiled. I enjoy oiling my maid and my friends hair. We do this very often and chit chat while doing so. My weekend routine is same as my daily routine. I need to have my hair oiled after my bath. Everyday my maid oils my hair. On one of the weekend days I try to find time and get my hair washed and then oiled and styled at the parlor by male masseur and stylist. He gives me good massage with heavy oiling. Then styles my hair in a fashionable braid or bun, depending on where I need to go out. Because of the heavy oiling, the style stays like that whole day and my hair is shiny and neatly in place. I also get my manicure and pedicure done every 2 weeks. Sometimes facial too. I love my parlor. They all know me there and treat me really well. I spend a good two hours relaxing there while I am being pampered.

ReplyDeleteI am a mother of two. My son's 6 years old and my daughter's 8 years old. I haven't cut either of their hair, apart from an occasional trim to keep a good hairstyle.
I wanted to share an effective method of keeping kids from fighting. Every time the two of them are not getting along, I make them sit down on front of me and I braid their hair.
What I do is I separate the hair on each to two, two thirds on one side and one third one the other. If the one third parting is on my daughter's right side, I'd part the one third one the son's left. And I merge the two one thirds and braid the hair on both of the kids as one big, thick braid.so both of them are having two braids with one of them common.
Woah! That's quite an interesting punishment. I'm guessing it's quite effective to get them to stop fighting.

ReplyDeleteAt the parlor after a hair wash in the basin, the stylist dries my hair and then I spend time getting my nails filed and nail polish put. After that for the next 1 hour I get my head, hair and shoulders massaged. The stylist comes with a big bowl of warmed coconut or Ayurvedic oil with a tinge of jasmine or lavender oil for fragrance. He opens up my waist length hair and with a cotton ball rubs oil all over my scalp while parting my hair little by little from one side to the other. Once head and roots hair is completely oiled then he begins the massage in circular motion with his finger tips first on sides, near years and the moving towards the top part. I am facing the mirror so I see him doing the massage. He enjoys it and seeing the joy and relaxation in my face, he enjoys even more. While massaging my hair and head he keeps bringing my long and now shining mane of hair upwards and plays with my hair. I love the feeling of the warm oil seeping into my scalp and hair and his fingers magically gliding over and into my head. Then he makes me bend forward and oils from behind, pressing from the nape of my neck upwards into my scalp. Applies oil generously so that his hands slide properly. Once behind part is oiled properly then he gives me nice massage presses my temple area and gently over my eyes also. Feels super relaxing. After that he oils my full length of hair properly, right till the tips. Once my hair is fully oiled and feeling heavy then he starts combing. First uses wide toothed comb and removes any knots till the comb flows freely through my hair. He’s an expert. Doesn’t break my nice long hair. The comb feels so nice as it glides into my shiny oiled hair. Then finally he uses a narrow teeth comb and styles my hair very neatly into the style of my choice. French braid or fishtail or then a neat bun. He uses colore clips in my hair to hold the style in place and for show. Finally wipes the excess oil from my face and behind my neck and I am done. I love the end result. I feel so fresh and my hair looks so nice after it’s oiled and styled neatly. Ready for an outing :) Now please describe in detail how you do the oil massages for your clients along with how your feeling.

Then applying oil and massage , seeing you feeling relax , massage your neck part by holding all your hair with one hand at top of head. Neatly comb and make top bun or french braid of ur hair then massage ur shoulder while smell of oil came from ur head.

One lady who is a bank manager who came to parlor 2nd and 3th Saturday of month for taking massage from me. One lady came every Friday evening.one lady with her young daughter came every sunday afternoon.

Neighbor bhabhi every Wednesday and Sunday night. Another neighbor aunty Sunday early morning before i go to parlor. One of my friend jash every Thursday( i have weekoff at Thursday), so today she will come. I have to visit reshma mam's place every Thursday afternoon .my friends wife Tuesday and Thursday night.
As today is Thursday i have week off at parlor, still have many home appointments. Like jash and her friend came in afternoon around 1:30,her friend want haircut. Then will visit Reshma mam's place around 4 for trimming and oiling( yesterday she msg me she wants to trim) , at 7 my masi's daughter will come for oiling and at 9:30 my friend's wife Neha will come for oiling.
I will share detail oiling incident soon ,from above appointment do you like to hear any experience in detail? So i will share it in night or tomorrow.

When she came to my place her hair tied with rubber band , i open her hair comb nicely, make small small partition and start applying oil from right side , then done same from left side , put some oil in middle start massage with fingers tips then gave her all different kind of head massage. Thanks Rahul for all your comments. I was traveling so could not respond. Its been a nice winter season so far. Oiling is going very well throughout. I usually try to get a massage or at least a light oiling twice a day during this season as it's dry and so hair and scalp needs to be kept moisturized so that hair keeps healthy.
ReplyDeleteRahul, I think you should encourage some of your customers who come to you for regular oiling to grow their hair long instead of cutting them. Hair to waist length is not that difficult to maintain as once you oil well daily, then there are no knots and hair remains in excellent condition. No dryness and frizziness. They key is to oil well and keep hair moisturized and healthy at all times. Plus long oiled hair has so many options to style and look really sleek, shiny and nice. Good for work, home and social events with any kind of dress, India or Western.
So many ladies come to you for regular oiling, which is great. You are giving them a relaxing time and I am sure you must be really good. The ones who like oiling would definitely manage to keep long, healthy and luxurious hair. So I really believe you should encourage them to grow their hair and only trim once in 4 months. After all they have you to keep their hair oiled and combed and styled. You can offer hair wash, oil massage and hair styling packages to all the ladies who enjoy this experience. Give them a monthly package of 10 turns a month, so that they are encouraged to come to you often. I am sure you will also enjoy to get your fingers into long and thick tresses to make them oily and shiny with warm and sweet smelling oil. Plus combing and styling oiled hair is such a great experience. You are lucky to have so many ladies come to you so that you can have this experience with different types of hair and make your customers feel relaxed, refreshed and beautiful. I suggest you also keep some hair accessories at your parlor, like different king of clips, scrunchies, colorful bands etc. to use for styling. It does not cost you much, but customers will feel nice to look great when they are out of your parlor with their oiled and styled hair. You can revive our age old tradition of oiling daily with a modern look and styling so women don't feel they are not fashionable. You can start a new trend in fashion and at the same time do a great service to have women maintain their hair to be healthy and neat all the time.
Please describe your oiling experiences in detail. We would all love to hear. I sincerely hope that you are able to make women (and men) feel great about oiling and styling their hair to feel modern and fashionable.

Now one who dont want to maintain long hair for them short and healthy hair are important.Apart from regular customers i will give package as you suggest to other customers to make then to come to me regularly.

ReplyDeleteNeha newly marriage 7-8 month ago . She is 24 yrs old, very beautiful,fair and fit, height approx 5.5 .
As she is from other town, after marriage due to water change she face too much hair falling problem.Immediate after their marriage my friends parents went abroad and she has nobody who oil or hell her to take care her hair.
One day 2 or 2 and half month ago we meet ,i told about my profession . So she ask me about how to solve hair fall problem. So I suggest her do hairfall control spa and regular hair oiling. I also told her to visit my parlor for hairfall control therapy. When she came for spa at parlor ,i have amazing feeling just imagine that i am pampering her and she feel relax and enjoy it because i like the way she looks . I done her hair spa that day during whole spa , specially during massage i feeel very happy from inside just looking her face.
After spa she get good result then she ask me many questions like which shampoo use ,which oil use how many time oil hair how to oil . During such conversations i told her to come to my home , i will give you good hair oil massage. Many ladies came to me. After consulting with my friend one good day she msg me , i want to come for hair oiling,when can I come? I told come tonight. After that oiling session she ask me can i come regular for oiling , then we set every Tuesday and Thursday for her oiling.
When she start oiling session her hair are above her breast line now they grown by 4 inch.
So she is the one with whom oiling session is my all time favorite , i am always waiting for Tuesday and Thursday night.
Sometimes our oiling goes longer then one hrs i give her different types of massage , fron different positions .theb either make braid or bun because its night time.

ReplyDeleteWe have two oiling session in a week one at Tuesday and one at Thursday. Tuesday is always interested because Tuesday she has dry hair.
At msg me around 8:50 can she came for oiling, i reply yes. 9 pm she came.she has wear light blue t shirt and lengi.she bring oil bottle and comb and few clips, her hair tied with rubber band. She came for oiling with full preparations.
She went and sit on chair before mirror.hand over oil bottle and comb to me.open her hair. I took some oil in small bowl from bottle.then ask her " champoo banadu na? " ( means heavy oiling) she gave sweet smile then show thums up...( again excitement run in my bodt like i am firsf time going to touch her hair and oil it. I control it .) Then took her hair in my hand ,tell her nice growth. Then i start combing it . While combing she start telling " sunday she has attend one marriage event how her hair looks beautiful, how people appreciate it......etc ....etc... Me just concentrate combing her hair removing tangles and in between utter acha.. Ohh...
Then i made 2 partition of her hair from middle. Left side partition put in her front and then took oil bowl and ask her " champu banne k liye ready? " she smile" haa, massage ache se karna aj subah se sir dard kar raha tha " me" ok ma'am" she again smile.
I take small small partition at right side and apply oil on scalp. Then after applying oil give massage with figures then scalp . Theb done same thing at left side , then put some oil in middle and start massage with fingers tip, first move fingers fast on her head then slow with different pressure ,and and saw her face in mirror, she has closed her eyes and feeling relax like heaven which encourage me to give her more and good massage . Then i continue such massage... Then use paln with different pressure, add more oil directly fron bottle continue massage .
Then its time to back side massage , make her head down , aplly oil on back scalp when required and passing my figures from her back neck to top of her head ,then I gathered her all hair and aplly oil on lenght ..
Then i prepare high bun on top of head ,handle it with one hand ,massage back side with other hand, the i went to her right side and massage righr to left then left to right and add oil when required.. Theb went to front. Continue......
Then went fromt , move my hand from front to back in her hair then give support to her forehead by one hand and by second hand massage her back to up side.

" she " min aur" then after 5 min massage, i took comb and start combing her hair , remove tangle with fingers.. After perfect combing , i put my both hand on her head gave some pressure and look at her, look so studying in heavy oily hair. She look me in mirror and smile then me" choti banadu kya?" She said ys ..i made braid , then massage her sholder and neck , feeling smell of oil from her head ..whenever i look her face in mirror in heavy oily braid , current flow in my body . After few min massage, i pull her braid, she" oouuchh .." then she wake up and went to her home with shiny oily braid ..

It sounds so cute that she comes to you all prepared with her own oil bottle and comb to become champu from you :) I agree that every time doing an oiling for her must he feeling like first time only. Oil seeping through her hair and making it smooth and shiny so you can just glide your fingers through her hair and scalp and give a magical massage. I am sure she looked absolutely stunning in a heavily oiled chottti while going home. That’s exactly the way I go home or out after my parlor visit.

Does she also like getting champu? 1 hour getting massaged must be feeling so good. What did she tell you after the two braids hairstyle? Next time try making a French or fishtail (sagar) choti. Then i start partition of her hair and made 2 choti.

Today in parlor anju came for oiling, her hair were few inch longer then breast lenght. She is regular client of my colleague , she regular take head massage from him . She is approx 35 yrs old .

I prepare hot oil for her, mix vitamin E in it .she is in relax position , waiting for me, her hair tied in loose bun . I go behind her , remove hairband and open her hair, play with hand and spread it . Then comb hair and remove tangle first , then make partition,then take small small partition and apply oil on scalp by cotton , then start giving her massage.
I gave her massage for 50 min in different positions and use huge amount of oil , then tied her hair in upper bun and gave her neck and back massage.
She really feel relax while i oil her hair, once i apply oil on whole scalp i use different kind of pressure to make her cell active.
After massage she took other services for 30 min . Then she come to my sit . She seat there . I check her hair by fingers move in her bun and said lets wait for few more min before wash. She ask me to give her shoulder and neck massage again . Me ok madam .
I start from shoulders ( i always like to give shoulder n back massage to my client immediate after oiling because she always look studying in oily hair and feeling relax ) then i make her head down and give massage at her neck with thumb. Then i make her head up again, give few min massage on neck with one hand then i start massage on her forehead , then i press her head .
Then after few min i took her to wash chair, and shampoo her hair , then i do her blow dey and she kept hair open and she left.
Great descriptions Rahul for both Neha and Anju. Your massage technique sounds wonderful in relaxing your clients. At my parlor they don’t give me so much shoulder and neck massage. Only head and forehead, but they do a very good job at styling my oiled hair. I am 40 now and have had my hair till just below waist length for many years now and love to keep it that way. Very healthy and no gray hairs yet. Because of oiling daily. I am sure Neha’s hair will become that way soon with regular oiling from you.
ReplyDeleteWhy don’t you can Neha one of the mornings for oiling and styling. Then you can really show her what you can do for styling her oiled hair properly. You have to make it up to her also for teasing her with two choti, although I am sure she doesn’t mind your teasing :) First time give her complementary. Maybe on Wednesday or Friday morning. Just come to you with oiled hair and you can add a little more oil for shine and then nicely comb her hair out and concentrate on styling her hair into a nice bun or French braid or fishtail braid. I am sure she will look absolute stunning and thank you for giving her a nice style for the day. I am sure you can make the time for Neha at home early or at the parlor. It’s a great experience for combing and styling oiled hair. If you do at the parlor then other clients will also be tempted to try new styling instead of washing of their heavily oiled hair. Like Anju did.
This week I had a stressful day at work and wanted a nice massage so I went to my parlor on Wednesday. I usually go only on weekends. Otherwise I am very happy with my maid doing oiling and combing my hair in the morning. But I really enjoyed my massage on Wednesday from Shehzad the stylist. He was also surprised why I came on Wednesday and told me he would remove all my stress. He opened up my thick braid and as soon as his fingers ran through my wavy oily hair it felt like magic. He gave a very nice massage with warm Ayurvedic oil by running his fingers in circular motion and pressing pressure points. It was really relaxing. Then he took a little Jasmine oil at the end and did my combing and put my hair in a bun with hairstick. I looked so relaxed and refreshed. He was also very happy for me.

Rahul I am sure it will be a great experience to get massage from you. My hair is great so others have told me including at my parlor. In the parlor many times after oiling or when I come for oiling I remove my hair stick and everyone turns their head as my shiny long hair falls down in waves. ReplyDeleteI was busy completing office assignments and hence didn't find time to post. But I have come across several experiences.
Last 2 months, I had abnormal hair growth and now my hair touch waist. Almost 5 centimetre growth in 2 months.
My Sikh friend Japtej Kaur is in regular touch and she encourages me to be like a Sikh man all the time.
But my mother wants me to be like a girl at least at home.
Today, being Sunday, I washed hair with shampoo and conditioned it.
Mother asked me to shave.
So, I got to know about her intentions. After drying hair, she grabbed Parachute coconut oil bottle and asked me to sit on floor. She poured handful of oil on my scalp and started patting on scalp. Then she evenly applied oil on my head and then on strands. Each hair strand was coated with coconut oil. Then she took a fine-tooth comb and brushed my hair backword. She was combing with gentle strokes. I stood and she was standing behind me neatly combing hair. Finally, she started making braid. She made a nice tight braid of hair. She asked me to wear my sister’s clothes. I sported Salwar Khamis and applied bindi on my forehead. Mother was very happy to see me in a woman's attire. Whole day, I lived like a girl.
In the evening, Japtej Kaur called me and asked me if we can meet. So, I had to change my attire. I sported my normal man's cloths and I thought I will sport hair like a Sikh man. So, I opened my braid and combed hair forward and made a tight bun of hair on top of my head and then sported a patka. My mother was unhappy. She doesn't like a Tamil family boy becoming Sikh.
I met Japtej Kaur in the garden. She had sported a braided bun of her beautiful hair, well oiled. I smelled her hair she had applied Dabur Amla hair oil.
I shared with her my dilemma of living dual personality. She laughed and said, it’s good that you have long hair like girls so that you can fulfil wish of both mother and girlfriend.

I am posting after 11 days. After my date with Japtej Kaur on 5th Feb 18; I went home and I was sad to find my mother upset with my attire of Sikh man.

Also, my hairdo resembles Lord Shiva. I have taken vow not to cut hair for spiritual reasons.
So, let me be myself.
But mothers being mothers very kind at heart and too much attached, don't get convinced.
She kept on telling that I miss my daughter and when you sort hair like a woman, I don't miss her.
She removed patka from my head and opened topknot. My waist length hair cascaded straight from head on my face.
Mother observed that patka cloth has soaked all hair oil which she applied in the morning.
She wanted to oil my hair again and make a nice braid.
So, again she applied hair oil and brushed back my hair and neatly combed them. Then she tied hair in a nice braid (Choti)
She made 28 knots in braid. 27 knots are 28 lunar mansions(Nakshatras)as per Hindu mythology. 28 knots of a braid bring good luck.
After making braid, she was satisfied and she told me not to open braid anymore.
Next day morning, I sported a braided bun of hair and went to office. Mother is happy.
Boss is not happy. He suggested, you better sport patka like a Sikh man. I asked him to excuse me for the day.
Next day I carried patka cloth with me to office and sported patka in men's change room.
But when I go home and open my waist length hair and look in mirror, I get immense pleasure. It's an investment. With regular oiling and taking care, I got wonderful hair. It's god's gift. I can manage challenges associated to it.

Every week, without fail, either my mom, or our maid would make me sit on a stool for hours while they oiled and combed my hair. Frankly, I found it quite frustrating at the time, almost a punishment. Little did I know I would grow to swear by this "punishment" in a few years !
Because of my career, I had to shift to Mumbai some years back, and I rented a flat where I live with my maid. She is a young girl from our ancestral village, her name is Aarti and she has an extremely pleasant and genial personality. But what I like best about her, is that Aarti pampers me a LOT. Suffice to say that though my job is pretty stressful, the thought of Aarti waiting back at home keeps me going. That girl has some serious magical hands and knows how to provide some real pampering and TLC !
Anyway, Aarti is good at a lot of things, but her head massages are really special. Her fingers work magic on the scalp, giving a massage that is at once therapeutic (it has done wonders for my hair!) and intensely relaxing. I indulge in it whenever I can, but Sundays especially are a must.
So yesterday, like a ritual, I was working on a particularly difficult piece of code, when Aarti called me dot at 12 noon (this has been our weekly head massage time for quite a while). I wanted to defer for a few more minutes, but Aarti is peculiarly persistent in these things. She insisted that I come at once, or she would not give me the massage (Aarti can be pretty childish at times) ! I was faced with the choice between debugging lines of code, or getting a head massage. Obviously it was a no brainer !
I made myself comfortable on a lounging chair, put my feet up on a stool while Aarti expertly massaged the rejuvenating Lavender oil into my scalp. The smell of the oil itself calmed me down a lot. But the real magic was of course, Aarti's massage. She used different strokes on my scalp, sometimes applying pressure, sometimes gently stroking, hitting all the right pressure points and relaxation centres. She soon followed it up by dripping a few drops on the temple, followed by a light rub down, then moving on to the ears, neck and shoulders. What's amazing about Aarti is for a supposedly untrained maid, her technique is impeccable. For instance, she never forgets to work on the delicate areas below the ear and between the neck. This is a sensitive spot and done correctly, feels incredibly relaxing to get massaged. Then she knows all the right points to massage to relieve headaches. Not only relaxing, it has been a lifesaver for me on many occasions. This time I started the massage by surfing the net on my smartphone, but by the time Aarti was working on my shoulders, I was already in a deep state of bliss.
Aarti always follows the head massage up with a vigorous back rub and arms massage. Unlike her delicate technique when dealing with sensitive areas like the head and neck, here her massage resembles more the type that is given by Indian barbers in saloons. She energetically rubs my back, kneads the muscles vigorously, chops on it with her fists and actively uses her elbows. It sounds painful, but believe me this part is incredible in its own right as well, especially the part where she uses a pin to roll up and down the spine in smooth motions. That part is heavenly !

ReplyDeleteShe ends this pampering session with a good massage of the arms, with special attention to the fingers and palms. This is particularly relaxing for me as being a software engineer, I need to spend all day on a keyboard. The bad thing is, by the time she comes to the arms, I have probably already dozed off ! So nowadays sometimes I ask her to skip the head massage and just go directly to the back rub and arms, though never on Sundays. Head, back and arms massage has become a ritual for me on Sundays and I would never tamper with that. I am almost superstitious about this.
So after the full massage, I dozed off on the chair for about half an hour, after which I took a bath, shampooed my hair, had lunch, and quickly fell into the deepest nap ever (strangely I feel this about every Sunday nap, as if that Sunday's massage was by far the best !). I woke up after a solid 3 hours, completely refreshed and rejuvenated. It was then that I decided I NEEDED to join this blog to share my experiences and here I am !
Sorry for the long ramble but I believe Aarti's Sunday routine is positively paradise and deserves a post of its own. Tell me what you folks thought. I will share more stories and looking forward to hear more from the other members of the blog. Cheers!
Meghna that’s such a great description of Aarti’s heavenly massage to you. Definitely sounds like paradise to have such an amazing massage. No wonder you love hair oiling and massages. Its one of the most relaxing things one can do. Plus oiled hair is so great to style and manage. For me it’s a part of my life. So is Aarti also good at styling your hair after massages? Does she give you massages on weekdays as well and style your hair when you go to work? Oiled hair has so many options to style and your hair looks so neat and shiny.

ReplyDeleteToday is Ramadan Eid. Happy Eid to my Muslim friends and blog visitors. Today is public holiday. I didn't go to office today.
I woke up late. I decided to wash my hair today. My mother asked me to wash hair with Shikekai powder. She hates shampoos and conditions which contain harmful chemicals.
I washed hair with homemade shikekai powder and after elaborate bath, I rolled my hair in towel topknot to dry.
After drying my hair, my mom came with a bottle of Parachute coconut oil and asked me to sit on floor. She poured coconut oil on my scalp and started applying coconut oil to other portion of hair. After applying lots of oil, she started combing my hair with a wide tooth comb and removed tangles and dreadlock if any. Then she took a fine-tooth comb and again neatly brushed my hair backword.
My mom suggested to sport hair today in single braid since I don't have to go to office.
Then she made a nice tight braid of my hair.
My braid is just looking like a black cobra.
I love my long hair and I will continue to grow them.
I have a Sikh girlfriend who encourages me to grow hair like Sikh men.
I am growing hair because my spiritual master asked me to take vow not to cut hair and I have been growing since last 7 years.
Regular hair oiling by my mother and sister made my hair strong, shiny and long. Thanks

Hi Rahul, I am sure Diwali must be a super busy time for you at the parlor. Hope you have learnt new massaging techniques and also followed my advice and introduced styling with oiled hair as a service to your clients. There are just so many options and it’s so much fun to do and the results are stunning. I hope Neha is still coming to you to get her hair oiled. That was so nice to read. I have written below about what I am into of late. One of my cousins also has been inspired by daily oiling. She comes to me once or twice a week to get her hair oiled and she loves it. She’s quite stylish otherwise. Dressed very modern and loves her nails to be polished etc. Her hair is till mid-back and cut in layers, but she loves the way her high sleek and shiny pony turns out after oiling from me.

When last posted Malti Shanti and Geeta have been pestering me to decorate my hair with flowers and colourful pins. On weekends they always put gajra/flowers in their hair after oiling followed by kaajal and big bindi. Recently Shanti just got back from her hometown and was telling us how her friend uses a 100ml of ParachuteCoconut oil on Sunday to oil her daughters hair. Now she wants us all to follow same routine on Sunday and wear gajras. I spoke to.my mother and she also support the ladies. She says nothing wrong with having flowers in hair. For the past couple of days Shanti has been regularly oiling my hair at night with Parachute Jasmine oil. I asked her if she likes the smell as sometimes she would playfully smell my oiled bun or make me smell.her oiled bun. She said I should get used to jasmine as very soon I will be wearing them and around Diwali she and ladies have planned something with the blessings of my mother. What do u think Pooja? Good to hear from you Sumit. I think Kajal looks really nice with the oiled hair look and I use it all the time. I love putting bindi’s also when I am dressed traditionally, but I also love the western look with my oiled hair twisted and put into a claw clip. Looks really shiny and cool with jeans and top. That time I don’t wear bindi. Generally I don’t wear gajra but if you think it looks nice and wish to try it out then go ahead. No harm in having some fun. I don’t like putting 100ml oil because it just drips and spoils everything I am wearing. I like oiling heavily with proper massage and love my hair to be shining and nicely combable, but no wasting oil and dripping.

Happy Diwali and new year Rahul and everyone else. Hope it was a busy, prosperous and relaxing Diwali for all. Rahul before Diwali I also got a slight trim at the parlor as my ends needed care and I like my hair to be just above my waist. Before that I got a nice hair wash with shampoo and massage in the sink. Then after the hair cut they dried my hair and I wanted it oiled and styled into a fishtail braid to go with the traditional look. The oiling was great and soon my hair was looking shiny and sleek. The stylist really did a great job with oiling, combing and then the perfect fishtail braid. I really liked the look with bindi and nice dangling earrings. Everyone else in the salon also was admiring me. For today I got my hair oiled again and took French braid for the day. That also turned out really nice.

I don't cut nehal hair too much , length I cut 3-4 inch then I give her layer hair cut .
Rahul 3 to 4 inches haircut is a lot I feel. Neha’s hair was not more than mid-back right, so thats too much. I never cut more than an inch, just a trim to keep my ends in shape. Layered cut looks stylish like my cousin has, but I love my same length straight hair with slight waves. That way my braids turn out perfect. Shiny and thick. All the way to the bottom. I don’t like any hair to come out of the braid. My cousin’s layered haircut is best suited for a sleek high pony. There even if the ends are not all same length, the pony looks cute. Shining and sleek after oiling. I envy her look sometimes but I would never dare do that with my hair.

I have 2 daughter 16-14. both have similar schedule that is sunday night wednesday night and saturday night oiling. and only sunday they have dry hair..
ReplyDeleteyounger one got hair till shoulder and its open most of time as its shorter.. hardly pony. and elder one till mid back and its braids almost whole week! 2 braids in school and after coming home either same or one. and rarely pony and on sunday its anything

Welcome to the blog Ami. So happy that you believe in daily oiling for your daughters. I am sure they look really cute after you oil their hair and send them off to school. It reminds me of my school days. Getting my hair oiled and neatly braided as part of my daily school routine. I used to love it. The feeling of oil running through my scalp and hair and then the fragrance as the comb would glide through. I always used to think it was magic that my open hair specially after a bath would get transformed into such a neat hair style. I used to like my hair in a single braid. Or sometimes in a half braid and half open hairstyle. Try that with your older daughter after freshly oiling. Your younger daughter would look cute with a hairband. Looks great with properly oiled shorter hair.

Hello pooja! yes oiled hair do look very decent and neat. Their routine is sort of same while school time! that on Monday morning they have dry hair so i start oiling it part wise until whole scale is covered and start spreading with comb, both of them have straighter hair so comb glides through hair very smoothly when its oiled. and next oiling is on wednesday and friday evening.
ReplyDeleteElder one mostly has 2 braids in school and after coming home if i open her hair i see nice wavy tresses on her. and for rest of day its either bun or single plait. Younger one don't have any hairstyle as i just comb it straight and put tight pins on side to hold hair so she don't play with it much!
Both have neutral feeling about oiling. they do it when i say it. and yes i do oil my hair! i don't oil heavy i just start coating little from monday nad by end of week they are oily as i add little oil everyday
Good to hear Ami. I am sure that when they grow up your daughters will really thank you for oiling their hair with so much love. For your elder one next time please try French braiding when you finish oiling. She’s older and it looks so stylish. In fact both of you can do an oiled hair French braid on each other. Maybe on Friday night as you can spend more time together. It will be good mother and daughter bonding and I am sure she will really enjoy it and admire how she looks. I don’t oil that heavily myself because I work but I do oil daily. Enough to cover my hair with shiny oil from root to tip and so that combing and braid or bun becomes really smooth and easy to do. My hair doesn’t break as the comb glides through.
